This works sooo great, and is just... It's like a godsend. EXCEPT... one tiny thing, and it would be perfect. (well, maybe 2...)

If you have 2 accounts set up, they both work fine, notifications come in, no problem. BUT, if you try to set up different ringtones for each - it doesn't work. At least for me, it looks like they both use the ringtone set for the default account (or maybe just whatever account was created first?). Probably the latter. Messages from the second account will also show the name of the other account when they come in (though viewing them takes you to the correct mailbox). I realize this isn't a huge deal, in no way a dealbreaker for me, but I like being able to distinguish between work and personal emails by sound notification.

Also, and this is maybe just picky - this stock app doesn't let you handle ZIP files or APKs? I'd forgotten about that. I found the mods for it around to try to make it allow them, but whenever i try it the resulting APK doesn't work right.

All in all, 1000X times better than any other option, I think. Great work.

Actually, I spoke just a bit too soon? Maybe some can offer some advice... I had this working on a JB ROM, but that didn't play nice with the phone in general, so I loaded up a CM9 ICS. THAT one works great, but this version of the Email.apk won't? It installs fine, seems like it's going to work great, but it doesn't ask to be a device administrator. So, at the point where it checks the incoming settings, where it would usually prompt you to accept the added security, it just fails with an error. I can connect to Exchange servers that don't use enhanced security fine, but unfortunately my primary one does.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks for this! Working great on my Nexus 4, running AOKP MR3. Might I make the suggestion of a "automatic sync all" setting? It was kind of a pain with the number of folders I have. :)

I think there might be another bug with non exchange accounts. I setup an imap account and I don't get any notifications from incoming mails for this account. I will take a look at that.

I want to thank you for posting this patch. I installed it on my Verizon GS3 running AOKP 4.2 and it works flawlessly.

I know in a past version of CM this was an option, it was either 5 or 6. There were some threads about it, and the developer kind of went MIA. It also let you choose specific ringtones for each subfolder, as well as just chose the subfolder to be notified. I am sure this requires a lot more coding, but just a thought.

Here the newest release of the modified email app. I solved the bug that no notifications arrived on imap accounts and I also fixed the issue that wrong accounts were displayed in the notification. Notification sound should also be fixed with that.

This time I've also created a ClockworkMod update zip file for easy permament instlall of the app. Please continue reporting issues here.

I still have trouble getting this to install -does this have any security modifications included as well? It just won't ask to be a device administrator, and since the server wants it to, it just fails to complete when you're setting up the server.

Is there any way of installing this on non rooted hardware? I've just got my Xperia Z and the lack of sub folder notification is killing me!

You most definitely would need to be root for this to work, as it involves replacing a system file.

elherr: This is a fantastic modification to the stock email client, been searching for while.

Two things would make it perfect:

How about a flashable zip for 10.1 that uses Email2.apk? (i tried modifying it myself, but it didnt work, I have no idea what I am doing.
Removing the PIN lock screen requirements. I actually like a lockscreen, but hate having a PIN.

Daaaaamn, I was so close! Thanks for preventing me from wasting my time! :p on the same note... does anyone happen to know of ANY mail app that will give me notifications for subfolders on Hotmail? The closest I have come is with K9, has the right features but typically cant set up Hotmail on IMAP for it, only Pop3, which doesnt have subfolders...

just going round in circles :(

Been following this thread as I would love this feature. I had to spend 20 bucks to get a 3rd part email app to get the notifications. I am on CleanRom 6.0 for the S3. Its TouchWiz based....will this work on my phone and ROM?

Thanks

Has anyone tried this on a Sony Xperia?

I rooted my Z, replaced "SemcEmail.apk" with this (renamed) and when I start it Exchange services just crashes.

Any idea?

Trouble applying patch

Running Verizon Galaxy Nexus and able to success root using WugFresh 1.6.3.

Tried installing Email.apk but it fails saying x App not Installed

I'm assuming since I'm running JB, I need to run the patch. I've tried everything with no success. There's no real good explanation on how to run a patch. Best I can find is: patch -p1 <path to patch>

Running adb shell su and navigating to system/bin folder, but I only have an applypatch executable. No patch executable exists on my phone (that i can see). Can someone help me figure out if I'm on the right track? I've been wanting this capability for DAY 1 of my OG Droid.

I am also on JB. I just downloaded the Email.apk, copied it to my /system/app, deleted Email2.apk, renamed Email.apk to Email2.apk, changed permissions to executable, and it worked.
