Another plus for Defy is it easily outperforms the vast majority of other phones, smart or not, in reception sensitivity. So, much better coverage in marginal areas.

Personal opinions about the defy...

I just bought an 8 GB Class 4 Sandisk card from flipkart to go with my new defy, performs well :)

But some testing revealed that the write speeds of the 2 GB card (Sandisk, unknown class) is 6-8MB/sec while my new one is around 4. But read speeds are totally skewed, the 2 GB clocking in around 13MB/sec but the 8 GB is being read at 26MB/sec! Weird...

I transferred some of my music to the card and boy, the defy loudspeaker is LOUD (and good sounding ofc). This is something I hadn't read in any of the reviews online. The phone literally vibrates at high volumes! The CM7 music app also rocks, sound quality in my opinion is better (loudspeaker and headphones) than in PowerAMP with a cleaner interface :)

But this is just my personal opinion. I'm no audiophile, 192kbit/sec mp3's are enough for me :)

Have more than 8 mouths that i have my Defy. I'm very happy with it, but if i had a option to choose in some time ago, i would been got the LG. Defy could be a life-proof, but i don't like the thing of don't know how long i will update my cellphone by myself. I've go a green lense, so i have no intent to got a 720p video yet. I don't live near a beach or desert, so sand-proof is not important to me. Water-proof maybe, but since i'm very careful with my things, i had never need something like this yet.

Even happy with my Defy, i say to you, get the LG!

Defy+ is official now!

Whoa! Defy+ is official now! Motorola announced yesterday after the acquisition of Motorola Mobility by Google.. It's a good news for me because I have yet to place my order for Defy due to lot of confusions.

I don't know when will it be released in India. I'm again confused whether should I wait for Defy+ or go with the current Defy.

Guaranteed, Defy+ will be more expensive than the current Defy price.

But you do get official overclocking, better battery life without having to spend extra for extended battery, higher probability of unlocked bootloader, official support for gingerbread etc.

And actual date of when I will be available is unknown...so it may be a while.

Personally, I would wait. In fact I'm wishing I did wait before buying mine 2 weeks back :p

@jasonmax

Did you buy the Defy recently lat 7-10 days from letsbuy? Anyone else bought the defy from letsbuy in last 1-2 weeks? Which lens did you get? Green/Red?

I am also in the same dilemma.

1) Whether I will get a green lens or a red one?
2) Should I wait for Defy+? Abviously its price will be high but maybe that will cause Defy's price to significantly reduce. It is also a possibility that Defy will not be manufactured at all after the release of Defy+

I am also itching to buy it asap but almost the same confusions as you are having :)

you will get a green lensed one for sure. red lensed defys ARE the defy+, only with a better battery, nothing else (oh, and of course the ugly painting). i would spend extra money just to buy a defy+ instead of a defy. lets see: both have the same hardware, except battery, and the camera module (which means you cant tweak the defy to record 720p). software-wise you cant get official gingerbread working on the defy (with green lens) properly. BUT if the defy+ gets an unlocked bootloader, we will get it too, and until then, we have cyanogenmod, which is way better than any official rom. so id still rather buy a defy than a defy+, especially because of the looks...

It's likely that defy may get unlocked bootloader because of Google's acquisition. If it happens, it will definitely open the door for many possibilities. We may even get custom kernels. But it's uncertain..:(

The problem is once defy+ is released, defy will likely be discontinued... that's what pulling me back from buying defy... I don't want my phone to be discontinued soon after buying it...:(

I don't know why the hell my first android phone buying drives me nuts...

Pros:
1. Great piece of hardware
2. Ruggedness
3. Affordability
4. Pocketable and attractive design
5. CM7

Cons:
1. No official gingerbread (we have cm7)
2. Locked bootloader (hmm... will be good if it gets unlocked)
3. Likely to be discontinued after defy+ (sad...:()
4. No 720p recording possibility on green lens

See, more number of pros than cons.. If I can live without 720p, there is no such a deal than defy at the moment... I'm trying to convince myself now...:D

I'll wait for Defy+

Well, defy+ is going to be launched in Germany next month... Probably, I can expect it in India in couple of months... hope so...

So, my final decision:

I'll hold my breath and wait for Defy+ :D No other phone than Defy+

I bought my notebook from flipkart. Nice service. But I'm thinking to buy it from letsbuy.com.

How about the earpiece on your defy? I heard that defy manufactured before march has earpiece problem...:(

Yeah, nexus s is a good phone in terms of software update. But it looks like a toy to me. It doesn't have micro SD card slot and comes with S LCD...:( and Samsung doesn't have a good design sense... I hate the curve on the back panel.

I have only these options under 20k (based on my choices):

1. Samsung Galaxy S LCD GT I9003 - 19,899
2. Samsung Google Nexus S I9023 - 19,999
3. HTC Desire - 18,599
4. LG Optimus Black P970 - 19,989
5. Motorola Defy - 15,399

Other options if I increase my budget slightly:

1. Samsung Galaxy S I9000 - 20,999
2. HTC Desire S - 22,399

So, I don't have many options in 20-22k range and no phone has the ruggedness of defy..
You don't need to increase your budget of the Samsung Galaxy S.
At 'indiaplaza' you can get it for Rs. 18980.
