I tried using the tutorial here to enable tethering: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11493471&postcount=193

but when I connect my computer to the network it says limited connectivity and I can't access any webpages.

Also, I tried using the CWM recovery for the atrix found here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019143

I followed the steps and after I clicked Recovery Mode my phone rebooted. Do I have to press the volume keys when its rebooting or should it go to recovery mode automatically? I tried holding the volume keys when rebooting separately (not after clicking recovery mode) and the phone got stuck on "starting fastboot" or "staring RSD", and I had to take out the battery each time to get it to reboot normally. What am I missing?

This is from the CWM post:

small change for recovery enter method, you can now enter recovery everytime you plug your ac charger when you phone is off. and you can change modes between recovery mode or poweroff charge mode inside the app

Notice the highlighted parts... your phone has to be plugged into a wall charger for it to go into recovery mode... no need to push any buttons.. once you get into the app and launch recovery mode, it will reboot, and as long as you're plugged into a wall charger, it will boot into recovery mode...

Thanks. I guess it matters whether its a wall charger or charging from the computer because the wall charger worked and when it was charging from the computer it didn't. So the first thing I did was click backup. Now if something goes wrong and I want to restore, how can I get to recovery mode? I would have to click the app but if I couldn't boot up into my phone, then shouldn't there be another way to get to it?

So, it's kind of a fail safe if you want to call it that.....

If you've already installed the recovery mode, if it's on a wall charger, it will boot into recovery mode automatically. I've had to unplug my car charger after finding out that when I rebooted it in the cardock, it was going into recovery mode...

So when I install a rom am I installing a backup from someone else's phone? And I just restore different backups to switch between roms? I wish rom manager worked with the atrix, it would have made this process a lot easier...

I just realized something. Since I don't have a sd card the backup saved to my internal storage... that can be erased if install another rom right? So I should wait until I get an sd card before installing another rom so I can put my backup on that, right?

As for tethering, that site doesn't say anything about the atrix. I've read about people who were caught tethering by att without a tethering plan and lost their unlimited data plan. Using the APN method that won't happen, but that methods not working for me. So if I try using barnacle tether could att change my plan or is that safe?

These are not actual ROMS, these are more like themes.. and some of the themes, which are being called P-ROMs include hacks/mods (HDMI mirroring, Webtop, APN..etc.)

You are not installing someones backup, as most of the stuff that are being changed are in the framework-res.apk and services.jar files, those do not contain personal info, just icons and functions...

Best way to install P-ROMs/Themes... make a backup of your stock setup, install the theme/p-rom you want.. if it doesn't go good or you want to switch, I would recommend restoring back to your stock, then applying the new theme/p-rom...

I've used androids wi-fi tethering with no problems..alot of phones are not listed, but it works for them.. even though I still have my unlimited data plan, I just don't go nuts with it and run up 20GB+ a month for ATT to start looking at my plan...

Wifi tether is waaay safer than modifying your carrier given apn imo.

For storing backup w/o ext, use dropbox. (link in my signature) dropbox sync is even built into TiBU. ;)
