Hey, everyone.

I'm trying to fix my brother's Active and not having much luck. I've been doing intermediate level android stuff since the HD2, so I'm not quite a rookie at troubleshooting. He said that he was at school, checked his texts, then the screen went out. So, that's where I'm at. I can't even really tell if it's a software error or a hardware error. The phone turns on, vibrates and the LED lights and that's about it.

Thanks for any help

If you had unlocked bootloader: Flashtool
If you had locked bootloader: Update Service and try repairing the firmware.

Both ways, you lose your data.

I've tinkered with Flashtool, but I'm not really sure what to do... I also tried SUS without success
See my tutorial to root (Check Signature). There in the first step, you will learn how to flash a ROM using flashtool. Choose and firmware of your choice, and taking help of the tutorial flash it using flashtool.
For another tutorial you can check someguyfromhell's sticky at this forum.

Thanks,
Rick

Thank you very much for the tutorial. I flashed it and now when I try to turn it on, The red LED is blinking three times.

Please, don't tell me that the battery was dead from the beginning................ :D
No, thankfully I didn't make THAT mistake, or my previous post probably would have been my last ever. I charged it and, unfortunately, am back to square one. Same as the original problem

I have some experience with active.

Can you tell me more specific.

1.About the problem
2.modding history of the phone.(like root or unlock bootloadet)

The phone does absolutely nothing except vibrate a tiny bit when you turn it on. So the most frustrating part, to me, is I can't really tell if it's a hardware error or software. I'm leaning toward software because even after I let it boot for a long time, I can't get the screen or any of the buttons to cause a vibration. BUT I also don't know if my brother had it set to vibrate on the lock screen like I always do.

From messing around with Flashtool I found out the bootloader is unlocked, but nothing custom has been done to it.

Okay, let says the screen got problem.the screen just have blank display right?

Try to put a sim card that doesn't have security pin when turn on.

After turn on wait for a few minutes and the try to call it.if the phone rings.the display surely defective.

So you think it's the screen? Is there a way to check without actually replacing it?
Hmm I think you can open your phone (DON'T DO IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH HARDWARE) and take the LCD screen and take it to nearest service shop to check whether it's working or not...and other possibility that your phone screen cannot be turn on is the screen power might got shot and burnt (like black out in a house, the power supply is shot :p)

I'll probably try to call it like the previous suggestion, then try this. I've been taking things apart for years, so that's no problem. Thank you
