[Q] Defy as USB modem in Linux?

According to this and this, Windows sees the Defy as an USB modem when you install the "Motorola USB driver." I'm on Linux though. Does anyone know how to achieve the same on Linux, as in, which kernel modules do I need to load and potential other configuration? On my old Nokia N80 (Symbian S60), it was as simple as "modprobe usbserial vendor=0xYYYY product=0xZZZZ" and I got a /dev/ttyUSB0 which I could use with pppd and dial *99#. Same trick won't work with the Defy though.
