Hello, I'm currently trying to install CyanogenMod on my Kindle Fire (otter2), but when I put "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" into the command prompt, the Kindle boots into system instead of going into fastboot. fastboot also doesn't recognize my device, and thus waits for the device forever until I close the command prompt.

Any ideas?

EDIT: I have used this cable to successfully root and flash a rom on an HTC EVO 4G before if that means anything.

You'll need to root or get a fastboot adapter to boot into fastboot.
