So my younger brother got his Fascinate last night, I popped the cover off to reveal what I think was an H1 battery. I own the Epic, which has a G9. I believe the classic I9000 has a G7. So... what is the difference here? To my knowledge (I don't have his phone in front of me), the batteries are rated at the same voltage and mAh. They look identical, and I would imagine are interchangeable, but why the differences?

The G7 and G9 are exactly the same. One is slated for Europe, the other US.

The Fascinate's battery should be the same as well.

No idea why Samsung went with this route. Perhaps to heed the requests from carriers to differentiate their devices from others, even down to the batteries.

I finally got a chance to look and the batteries look identical. Same case, same pin positioning, same everything. It's just a matter of black label vs blue label. Switched the batteries, each phone booted no problem. I'm lost as to why Samsung labels them this way.
