Does [ROM][4.1.2][3.1] Slim Bean(I897) [All Languages][Final] have a speed dial feature?
Like the original Samsung GB where long press on a number dials a specific contact.

I'm asking because I remember once before I tried some roms and they didn't have speed dial.
Installing a dialer app is not an option as they don't integrate like the stock and look different.

I'm still on the stock Rogers 2.3.3 rooted and uninstalled some of the Samsung and Rogers bloatware and it's running great.
But just noticed there are 4.x roms now available for the Captivate so I've been curious whether they're usable for daily use.
Speed dial is a MUST HAVE feature for me so that's why I'm asking before I go flashing new roms.

I am on CM10.0, JB 4.1.2 and it is very stable.

The standard dialer does not have speed dial but before you conclude nogo;. I loved speed dial with GB, but found a better 'speed dial' solution with JB.

There are alternative dialers on google play that do, like go contacts. after messing with these, I chose to stay with standard dialer.
For speed dial function, I added an additional launcher screen that has direct dial shortcuts. I can put up to 16 on the screen, but only have eight at present.

It's faster than speed dial was under GB and I like the fact that each icon has both a picture and label. I tap an icon and it immediately dials. One tap dialing.

If you add contacts to your favorites, it's basically a speed dial. Better, in my opinion. Plus they sync so you don't have to worry about resetting them every time you switch ROMs.

No, it's not.
Not by a long shot.
I have to switch to the Fav tab and then read through the list to find the name.
Not only it's another press but reading list is not an option (especially while driving).
And working with number pad means one develops "muscle memory" and it's very easy to hit a number fast.
Speed dial is one press when in keypad screen, with one quick glance at the screen. Just like pressing a preset button on the car radio.

Ok, I've tried that and it works.
But the labels are very small, unreadable without putting on my glasses.
And if I don't have a picture for a contact then it's just a blank icon.
It's a solution although I think the dial pad speed dial is still the best and should be a standard feature in every rom.

No, you're doing it wrong then. Look, no list (unless you scroll down): uploadfromtaptalk1357085616264.jpg

And if you don't have pics, take some or do Google/Facebook/Twitter/Skype/whatever sync to get them.

I agree and I do both. My fav list has one set of numbers/contacts, and the additional screen I setup has others.

Ok, thanks for the info.
How did you get them to tile like that though?
Is that a feature specific to CM10 or can I do that on GB 2.3.3 too?

It's a stock AOSP feature introduced with ICS. I don't think gingerbread has anything like it though, but it uses the same favorites, as I'm pretty sure I set those while on CM7 and haven't touched them since. To add a contract to this page, you just open up their file and press the star in the corner.
