[Q] Does your Xoom's purchase location matter when you flash?

I live outside the US and am planning to buy a Xoom Wifi sometime later before I get into college (maybe 3 or 4 weeks from now)
I've read a lot about it, which is why it seems like a much better tablet at the price than most others out there

The box in which the xoom is sold here is red (I believe it's blue in the US) so I'm guessing it's a bit different from the US one..?
I think in almost all the how-to-flash-a-rom threads, the xoom's mentioned as the US Wifi version. If mine's the non-US version, does the procedure involved in flashing differ from the ones given here?

Also another quick question.. If I want to flash a rom like the EOS 84, do I have to root it? Any major advantages?

No Xoom country version does not matter when it comes to the root procedure, if you are using the Universal Root Method. Yes, in order to flash a Custom Rom you must be rooted. As for the advantages of rooting, it depends on your taste and needs. With root you can customize you Xoom. Rooting you device gives you access to your device settings and all files, enabling you to modify/customize, add or remove system items, or your device UI and install cool themes ... things of that nature. With that access you will need to be very careful when you start playing around with your system files. ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR SYSTEM BEFORE ANY MODIFICATIONS (just in case something goes haywire)

To find out more on what Root access can do for you, advantages ... use google to search, this would not be the place for that. After you get a better understanding of the root process, browse this forum for Modifications and what not.

Yes, in order to flash a Custom Rom you must be rooted.
I call bullshit on this statement. To flash a new rom, unlocking the bootloader is technically enough. If the custom rom is being provided in a flashable zip file, you'll need to install a custom recovery first, but you definately do not need root access.

Custom Roms, however, are usually rooted out of the box.

As to purchase location -even if it ain't important to the OP any more- Everything outside of HK should be fine, HK-xooms need a little extra attention though, as they have a different partition table which may lead to it showing only about 4gig of memory.
