Shimp is there button sequence to get into recovery when booting?

I tried updating some Google apks and added some other items to /etc but it's failing to get to wizard after a factory reset. More or less I've bricked the unit unless I can get adb up or reflash with fastboot.

yeah it works but you dont really know what was installed on ur phone or on your pc. 3 apps are installed on your phone and a few reg changes on ur pc can be detrimental. and its all bloatware
Hmm yeah maybe I'm just not as cautious as some people. The only reason I feel the need to have root is moving apps to SD. Nvidia is supposed to release this as a built in feature on the 4.3 update which they claimed would be ready this month sometime.

Oh and hiding the onscreen soft keys requires root. That gives a considerable larger screen for horizontal games.

Just a regular shell with $. Doesn't look like I get temp root permissions after running the tegranote_insecure_v2.img.
If it matters, I'm on the latest Stock ROM (4.2.2/JDQ39.13155_268.1942) and I'm using Universal Naked Driver 0.73 for the Shield, which works with this device. Maybe I need to use a different driver?
Drivers shouldn't be the issue in this case. Just to make sure I'm on the same page about something, to unlock the Tegra Note's bootloader did you have to issue the fastboot oem unlock command? Or when you boot into fastboot mode does it say that that it the unlocked flag has been triggered (I.E does it say in fastboot mode, LOCK STATE: Unlocked)?

As I don't actually have a physical device is test this combination try holding power button + volume up + volume down simultaneously when booting up the device to see if that gets you into the bootloader. From the bootloader you should then be able to use fastboot or select the option to boot into recovery mode. Also did you do a factory reset from recovery mode when you did the factory reset or the settings menu in Android? If someone can provide you with a copy of there system.img and userdata.img then you can try flashing those in fastboot and seeing if your device will boot up again (A Note on userdata.img this may contain peoples personnel information so if they provide and it and you flash it after your device boots backup please perform a factory reset from recovery to erase that data).

My Tegra Note's bootloader was unlocked from the factory. I did run "fastboot oem unlock" now just to try it, but it did nothing since it was already unlocked.

The only way I have been able to get to boot loader is by using adb command once you do that you get a black screen and then you can see your device by fastboot devices

Arr ok. If I were rich I'd buy you one...

Yeah I used the software version of the factory reset.

If you ever get a Tegra Note make sure you get a GPS version as mine is said to not have it. I thought these tablets were all the same, but with different branding.

Yeah I was able to do that too. Now with my Tablet in endless loading, I can’t get to adb in Android to push a reboot into recovery.

Even if I could I'm not aware of any one sharing the system image for me to reflash.

Since the device has a micro sd I can imagine that you'd put the img in the sd and do some sort of button pressing for the device to update.zip or update script. At basic it could see a boot.img and also flash.

I just hope they haven't resorted to a uart cable and opened tablet to recover a device.

Hi guys,
just found out that holding power and both vol. buttons and then releasing power when you see "Tegra Note" gets you into APX mode(http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/APX_mode), this means it can be flashed with nvflash, since this is working at an even lower level than recovery, it means that this tablet could be (almost) unbrickable , as the firmware for APX mode is stored in the boot ROM, so it can't be changed(unsure, don't quote me on it!). This should all mean that flashing tools should be released by Nvidia soon!

I had this issue 4 days ago and managed to get myself out of it:
my tegra note was bootlooping and would get to the green spinning circle, but my windows 7 PC could still detect an adb device (I was using universal naked driver 0.73) so i gave it the 'adb reboot bootloader' after spamming the cmd with 'adb devices' and it obeyed, going to the black screen. Next I gave told it to 'fastboot reboot -w', the w flag standing for wipe, THIS WILL WIPE ALL DATA ON YOUR DEVICE, after this it booted!

Hey there, just chiming in as a new owner. I've been following the thread, have unlocked the bootloader (well it was already unlocked so whatever), have booted into the bootloader, fastbooted the insecure... uh... thing, I get what's going on but I'm treading water a bit here. After that I open a shell on the device using adb and I do not have root privileges.

I.e. It works right up until that point where the insecure adbd is meant to give me root access temporarily. Halp? Not sure where to go from here

*edit* ended up following this guide which seems to have worked, now back to whatever it was I actually wanted root for, formatting a microSD card I think :p https://github.com/linux-shield/shield-root/blob/master/README.md

It's worth trying the Cydia impactor tool - you need the adb drivers working, but if the tnote supports the tool it is super simple. Worked great on the t4 device I have, the HP 8 incher.

YESSS!!! Thank you, this is just what we needed. Everybody go here https://github.com/linux-shield/shield-root/blob/master/README.md to get your Tegra Notes rooted! And thank CampGereth for finding this.

EDIT:
Go here to root your Tegra Note 7: https://github.com/linux-shield/shield-root/blob/master/README.md (thanks to CampGareth for finding the link).
I have tested this, it works with no bloatware, only installs SuperSu.

---------
Hey guys, I got my new Tegra Note 7 last night and I've been trying to get it rooted, but I keep running into trouble.
First of all, I DO NOT want to use some shady Chinese software that installs a bunch of bloat on both my tablet and PC just to get SuperSu going, I've tried that method and had to reset the tablet to get rid of all the crap it installs (and it didn't even seem to root anyway).

Now I'm trying the manual method from here: http://pan.baidu.com/wap/link?uk=3073396937&shareid=3129426036&third=0
Which, again, is Chinese but at least I can see what it's doing since I'm issuing ADB commands, and supposedly it has worked for others on this forum.

Now, I get to step 3 on the included PDF which says to boot an insecure bootloader image with "fastboot boot tegranote_insecure_boot.img", I do this and the tablet screen flashes a few times and reboots to android.
I get to the next step which says to open an adb shell, and do "/sbin/rootsh +p" to get a temp root shell, and this is where I get stuck. Instead of getting a root shell I get the message "/system/bin/sh: /sbin/rootsh: not found". Does anyone have suggestions?

By the way we really need a Tegra Note 7 subforum here at XDA, if the mods could add it that would be great. :)
Might want to check this out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575994

I'd love to try this out. Is there a stock recovery image available to download somewhere as well? I'd like the option of going back before I flash a potentially broken CWM.

I am ready working with the dev on this recovery and have tested it and it fails but here is the stock recovery.img to replace it if you have a bad CWM Recovery flash
