Hi I want to buy this tablet, but I was reading that the expanded memory can only store photos taken from the tablet.

Would I be able to store music and movies on the SD card that I would buy

You should be able to store anything on the microSD other than apps with a stock android device.

If you are willing to root your device (unlocking all settings that were previiously unavailable), you can store apps on there as well.

Where did you get your information from? It would seem like an odd statement to make unless they were trying to convince you to get something else.

You're getting some bad information. You can store/play music and videos to the SD just fine.

Where they get stored, if you purchase them using the tablet may vary depending on where you are purchasing them. I don't purchase music or videos using the tablet, personally. But the SD works in the same way as most any Android device, for every other purpose.

But I saw it on a review of the device (user review) from a store.

I'm sold going to buy one after work
