Hello fellow Xda members. I was hoping to get some advice from the community on how to go about my pre order dilemma. So I am a current Verizon wireless subscriber and currently have 4 lines with Verizon. All of our lines had 1 more year remaining before contract was fulfilled and we were up for full upgrades. We received an email saying that they were going to offer 2 of our lines a limited time promotional upgrade. This was due to those lines still having basic phones. (Mother and Father in law) :D So my mother in law was so gracious to allow me to pre order the note 2 on her line so that I can have it. According to Verizon we have to keep the note 2 on her line for 2 weeks, before we can switch it over to mine. Is there a way to avoid this? Obviously cause I don't want to wait another 2 weeks, well and my mother in law wouldn't know what to do with it. LOL Also my other reason for wanting to avoid her having it for 2 weeks, is because I know verizon is going to charge us for a data plan on her line for the whole 2 weeks she would have it. I am not sure if it would work like this, but since they are shipping it to my house, I figure I can just call them and have them switch the IMEI and just purchase a new sim card for my number?

Thanks!

Was wondering the same thing. I have a flip phone on one of my lines and ordered the note 2 also. So you are saying I have to keep the phone on that line for 2 weeks then I could switch it to my phone. Did they say if you could downgrade the plan back to a no data plan.

Well to be honest my situation may be a different exception than your situation. They said it had to stay on my mother in laws line for 2 weeks because it was a promotional offer for the full upgrade. Since they were offering her upgrade a year only because they were still on "basic" phones.I haven't asked about downgrading the pan to a no data plan yet. I just want to try to avoid having to add a data plan for just one month, considering my mother in law would not make use of it.

Don't worry, when you get the Galaxy note 2 just follow these steps:

1. Activate Galaxy Note 2 on the line you upgraded (your mother in law.) Let it get signal and settle for a couple minutes.

2. Now reactivate the phone that was previously on that line. If that happens to be a basic phone, as soon as you activate it, the data plan will be dropped since you can't have data on a basic phone. You will be charge the prorated price of a dollar if you had the 2GB data plan for $30 since it is considered to have been active for one day.

3. Basically the Galaxy Note 2 is unlocked to any Verizon line or account now. The reason you must activate it first on the line you purchased it for is due to the shipping security procedure to ensure you received the phone.

I've done this a couple of times it literally take about 5-10 mins, and is really simple.

Well thanks for the information, so once I remove it from her account all that i would need to do is purchase a sim card for my line to put into the note 2, right? I am currently using a loaner HTC Rezound until I get my note 2, can I just use that sim card? Once again, thanks for all your help!

I have a Rezound as well right now, you can't use that sim card since you need a micro sim and the Rezound use a standard sim. You could try cutting it, but it would be simpler just get a new one.

That's what I figured! I just hope they hurry up and finish building that Verizon wireless store near me. LOL I live on the oregon coast and the nearest Verizon wireless at this time is 60 miles away.

Damn that's far, I think you can get them to mail you one, I'm gonna call Verizon later today and see because I'd like to have the sim as soon as I get the phone, but there luckily is a store close by if not. I'll let ya know though later.
