this is nice and comprehensive. very helpful. is the stock ROM the one rooted by bvlgarian.tistory.com? It was removed a few weeks ago? also while I have you here, are you aware of the method for rooting? I mean, when ICS is released, Tegrak recovery will not appear for a while so there is another potential way to root by mounting the img via ext4_utils

if you like, when ICS is released then grab it from temp folder while Kies is busy then upload it and I will try to root it. I will do the K version myself as I have Ubuntu and ext4_utils ready

Where i wrote stock, well there is only pure stock. ICS from Samsung is very dangerous and i do not care about. If you do not know about the issues i advise you to dig around here on xda, there are a lot nice phone that got hardbricked because of Samsung ICS, Epic 4G, Nexus, Galaxy Note, is a storm and you will find a lot topic about this, me miself i hardbricked mi Note because of this and right now in this moment the only solution is to change the motherboard with a new one...

- composing sms ( must access 1st contacts in phone go to mesage u must save a 1 draft or 1 message to be able to access the compose menu.. if you delete it.. sms compose dissapears in messaging icon...
- i think there is some galaxy note integration here.. coz there an app S memo and diff pen tutorials etc..( ill delete it we dont have pen ^__^ )
- feels faster hmmmm, SMS limit fixed
- to be able to work this rom properly u must explore it settings etc..
im using this rom now very smooth touch, battery life ( for me its ok ) sms limit fixed.. gotta save 1 draft message in my inbox though....video call disabled i think..

thank you for the information.. there was a stock pre rooted rom. that's why I wondered if you are aware of the method. I have the rooted GB FC02 by this method. it's only last night I flashed a custom recovery and kernel onto the rooted one. the method is quite safe. The resulting tar is flashed via Odin.. no Odin count and no triangle.

there is no custom, leaked or official ICS for the SHV-E120 nor an official one for the Note so I'm not surprised there are some bricks floating around ;-)
sorry to hear about your accident.

when ICS gets pushed to your phone, if you can, please grabbed it from cache then let me have it. I will do the K variant for myself then flash it. upon success I will then do the stock ICS for any other variants but I will need the stock official rom to do it.

In case others have Linux knowledge please help me as well. I will use the ext4_utils to mount the system.img them insert su binary then flash. the procedures are described on a thread on xda

Hey, better read a little bit more, there is an official stock ICS for Note, released about 10 days ago on Germany, and right that is the one that blew a lot Note. I repeat, there is a storm, and for all of you, advise is to stay on GB, otherwise you could cry on samsung service gates, search and read on SGS2 forums, Epic 4G forums, Note forums, Nexus forums. Before rushing to ICS better read a lot on those forums. ALL ICS FROM SAMSUNG COULD BE AFECTED. Better read and listen to experienced and respected developers like Chainfire, Entropy and others, they posted red warnings all over xda forums. Do not say you have not been warned!!!

I was referring to the Korean Note (I'm in Korea and I saw you have a Korean variant phone) which hasn't been released yet.

It's likely that many people bricked their phones by flashing one of these regional roms (German or the Chinese one) to their device when it isn't meant for their phones. Any manufacturer's ROM should be checked against the device in hand.. not JUST SAMSUNG ICS

Earlier on this thread, there was mention of a one size fits all rom for the shv-e120.... I'd be very cautious about a one size fits all variant claim. Either it will be extremely unstable and render the phone largely unusable or it will "brick" the phone. I would also be cautious about flashing the official ROM directly from KIES before a rooting procedure is confirmed because sometimes and upgrade can really lock a user out of the option of rooting for a while at least. Most of all, one should be prepared to find a way out of the "woods" before entering it :-D

Man, as i said, you should read a little beat more, we all are like this, even me, that is how i have now a very expensive brick in my house...

Usualy you would be right in what you are saying, but this is not the case, at all. There is an I/O bug in an unknown number of ICS Samsung Roms, the bug is in the kernel and also in the EMMC firmware. Samsung introduced a new feature meant to improve performance wich instead is ending up by making the EMMC non wrightable, when a huge quantity of data/info is manipulated (read, wright, delete), or a factory reset (that broked 99% of devices), the instructions are interpreted wrong by the EMMC controller (due to the wrong firmware and kernel) wich is ending by wrighting a large quantity of zeros, 32 kb, and only zeros, and after that beeing unable to read that wrong info, wich is wrong from the beginning, and no firmware could read again, cause is an abnormal info already wrighten...., so the system become non bootable, and is starting an infinit boot looping.
And more, you could very well flash the rom and usit for a few hours (like i did), or a few days or week, but in every second the EMMC can colapse, it is not a proof that you made 4 factory reset and that is why you are safe, you can never be safe once you have an ICS with the wrong EMMC firmware and kernel.

Man, take care! There is no need to learn a leson in the hard way, like i did.

this sounds serious. has samsung admitted to it being a bug? in this case, whether flashed via Kies (not voiding warranty) or Odin (perhaps voiding warranty) ... can't you claim on the warranty?

I will be sure to read more once the ICS Is released before flashing. thanks for the warning and details

EDIT I found the write up. This affects only custom roms based on the leaked rom? http://www.xda-developers.com/android/hard-brick-bug-on-galaxy-s-ii-and-note-leaked-ics-kernels/
one can hardly blame samsung for this as the ROM may likely have been trashed by their technicians for this or another bug... Personally, I don't flash leaked or customs based on leaks.

what did you flash? the bug exists in those roms based on the leaked rom.?

lol.. I'm only after the facts. there isn't anything wrong with samsung released roms. that's what I have read. the problem is with leaked roms

Hm hm hm hm! This is what i am keep trying to tell you an this one is the last post from me about this cause i am wasting my time. THERE IS ALL WRONG WITH SAMSUNG RELEASED. If you would have carefully read the first link i gave you http://www.xda-developers.com/android/hard-brick-bug-on-galaxy-s-ii-and-note-leaked-ics-kernels/ you would certainly have also found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26046849&postcount=140, and also if you would have carefully read at least half of tha tons of links i post it about this issue you would also have found that there is everything wrong with samsung release, that there are tens of brokem devices, that there is not only Note but many other samsung phones, and i am not the only one with a factory reset from stock recovery with a dead device. I am done with this story, seems that every one like to get fry before beeing more carefull so go on.

I've seen the links and the causes are apparently case specific and all related to leaked roms or leaked bootloaders. there's no need to post again about this. thanks for your concern.

it is a good thing to post these roms with links to the original developer's posts where people can read all they should know before experimenting. also, the original posts are almost always requesting that people don't post the ROM elsewhere. the reasons are not to hog the information but to ensure that people are fully appraised before attempting. so I encourage people to not rush into flashing :) first read

IT IS OVERSEAS SERVERS WTIH SLOW DOWNLOAD SPEED, THAT MADE PEOPLE GIVING UP TO DOWNLOAD OR EVEN GIVING UP TO THEIR DEVICES, I MANAGED A WAY TO DOWNLOAD EVERY THING I FOUND (except one that i could not acces it) and i thought that will help a lot of people...

Well, to post all the links to each forums for each roms would be a huge work for about a day cause i have to retranslate each one page and related to its rom and download link... Bleah...!

Starting from now i will ignore all of your message, unless you appologize for beeing a time waster.
