My Fiance has the HTC One X on AT&T. She wants Google Wallet and the only way I can think of is the same method I used to get it on my Galaxy SIII, and that was root and flash the hacked APK by Modaco (a method I appear to no longer be able to find).

I've seen several root methods with CID hex editing and so on. She's not interested in flashing new firmware (although updating her to 4.2 Sense (if it exists) would be FANTASTIC) and she doesn't want a custom recovery. All she wants is root access so she can flash/install Google Wallet.

I don't have her phone on me, however she has the latest official OTA from AT&T/HTC.

I guess the generalized point is, will the HTC Dev unlock method work for this? Or do I have to take it a step further and gain S-OFF/follow one of the numerous guides on this site? And will I be able to back up her data and apps (nandroid?) via ADB like I do with my Nexus 4?

As far as I know there's no way that it's possible, I think there was a bounty to get it to work somewhere in the forum but nothing was confirmed working. I tried for a week straight with my old One X that was rooted and s-off but sadly nothing worked. At least not for me.
