[Q] Help with update please

Ok so I have an SGP771 that is on build 28.0.A8.260 and running the AndroPlus V12 kernel and I am attempting to update via Sony companion software. The software has downloaded the update and attempts to start the update, it shuts the tablet down then on the software screen I get:

Startup error
An error occurred while preparing to update your device. Your device is unchanged.
Please try again later. If the problem persists, contact Sony support.

Error code: UEGetPhoneInfoFailure
CompanionUE 3417, UE_2003


Ok so is this because I have the AndroPlus kernel? What am I missing, I haven't seen this problem articulated by anyone else so I am guessing I am missing something simple but can't for the life of me understand what.

I am new to Sony devices and certainly long for the simplicity of HTC updates... Why does Sony make things so difficult when it doesn't have to be...

Hi, pccompanion will only work with locked botloader, use flashtool to update the tablet

Thank you for the information. I will probably end up just selling the damn tablet as flashtool apparently can't be downloaded without torrent software which is ridiculous. OMG I never realized the pain Sony users had to go through for something that should be simple.

Again thank you for sharing the information, I am very frustrated which is probably coming through more than anything else but I do appreciate the assistance and willingness to share information.

After installation replace x10flasher.jar by the one provided in the zip.

So it would appear that the device I bought unlocked from Amazon was 1296-4830 from Hong Kong. Does that sound right, seemed odd to me?

Thought so and found that, just thought it was odd that it appeared to be a HK model as I wasn't expecting that.

I agree that smasung or HTC tablet is better as it has custom roms. But for me, having Sony tablet is also a great deal especially after being a user of ios, and having endless awaiting of jailbreak.
Pccompanion suppose you to have untouched system files, in order to save all your data on internal storage after an update , and if you modified it with xposed, luckypatcher and other stuff. Of course something goes wrong if pccompanion tries to update it with saving data.
For me, using flashtool is no problem at all. Important information is saved on sdcard, apps are recovered by google account.

Thanks. My only point with HTC was that you only need to know your way around ADB and Fastboot really and you can load just about anything when the bootloader is unlocked.

I have Flashtool working but stuck at the part where I am trying to flash the update to the device as it says the device isn't in debug mode but I have usb debugging selected and I've reloaded drivers so I am not certain were to go from here with it.

Ok so finally got MM loaded and have loaded AndroPlus V20 loaded. Can't for the life of me find a link for downloading the TWRP 3.0 image, TWRP doesn't list the Xperia Z4 Tablet in their devices list at all and I am totally baffled as to where I even found the 2.8.7 image I had.

I find no posts with a download link anywhere in the Z4 forums, what am I missing? I am not normally this helpless in finding stuff on XDA but it really seems that anything for this device is a struggle...

Thank you for all the help. I only go there for the kernal download and just never look beyond the model and version download of the kernel.
