[Q] hot to get the digital compass working

Hi everybody,
I have a MTK6577, Z-sensor shows me I have the digital compass in my phone, but every compass app or google sky map doesn't work. The needle compass is not moving at all and google sky map do a mess...moving everywhere like crazy. I tried to perform 8 in air with the phone and the 3 axis rotation but still no response from the compass...it means it is hardware broken? Can I try something else?
