[Q] How do I know which model of HTC Sensation I have?

I've bought my 'HTC Sensation XE' second hand. I know you can replace the back cover, battery and overclock / put XE firmware on to effectively turn an original Sensation into an XE except for the red capacitive buttons (as far as I know), suggesting that my phone is indeed an XE, unless the screen / digitiser could've been replaced etc. But maybe I'm just being paranoid.

I want to put ROMs on it but it looks like you need to be pretty sure of the model... Any way I can find out for sure?

P.S. what the hell IS s-off? I've modded a lot of phones but never heard of s-off (I'm guessing it's a HTC specific thing)? I've seen how to turn s-off but just don't know what it is haha.

As long as it is not an xl then it doesn't matter. S-off is to allow the ability to flash firmware. S-off isn't necessary it's always useful to have.

If you can get the device on, check out most things on the about phone section.

The Sensation and Sensation XE are in terms of software (almost) exactly the same, apart from Beats Audio and a higher kernel frequency. You can flash any Sensation rom on a Sensation XE and vice-versa.

you can check it also with
fastboot getvar mid command

if it shows pg5813000 then it is sensation
if it shows pg5813001 then it is sensation xe

Actually you are doing that from pc
Just connect the device to pc via usb in fastboot mode(bootloader)
Open a cmd window in the folder where you have adb and fastboot files
Then do the command
