So I've been stuck with my HTC Desire Z for quite a while now(2 years +-), great phone, but it's getting outdated and slow.

Now the Xperia Z is very relevant to my interests, must be the "Z", and I was wondering if this phone will get easily rooted? Since i'm not a huge fan of manufacturer bloatware crap I like my phone rooted. It's the first time i will get a phone on it's release so i'm not really familiar with rooting new phones.

We don't know, nobody has it yet, but I don't think it will be that hard.

If you get a non-SIMlocked device with unlockable bootloader - should be easy.

SIMlocked devices with non-unlockable bootloaders will be a different story. Avoid such devices like the plague.

Whats the difference to just buying a locked device and unlocking it and then unlocking the bootloader?

how would you know if bootloader is unlockable or not?

J:D

All the Xperia devices comes "bootloader locked" by default. And you can unlock it on sony's website easily. But phones which are bought "Network locked" tend to disable the feature to unlock the bootloader so you won't be able to root it and do weird stuffs with the phone like removing their products, using it on other networks and stuff.

So to summarize it all.

Bootloader locked = This disables the access to the phone's bootloader which has the capability to mess with the NAND partition.

Network locked = This restricts your phone from using any carriers other than from where you bought it.

Ex. If you bought it on T-Mobile you can't use it on any other carrier like Verizon O2 Orange etc.

And what entropy is trying to say is.... Don't buy Network locked phones.

so a C6603 (Z) that had

simlock :
network 0
network subset 0
service provider 0
corporate 0
SIM 0

and

Rooting status:
Bootloader unlock allowed:Yes

would be the most useful option
