Q[How hot does your phone get]

My first Galaxy S3 went back due to excessive ink markings on the screen and since getting my replacement I have noticed it running hotter than I remember the first one being. The heat feels to be coming from the lower half of the screen / back of the phone.

I compared it to my friends phone and his gets just as hot. I am running FreeGS3 v0.1.0 and my friends was running stock - non rooted.

I ended up going to Sprint and the tech at the store replaced my phone with a new one out of the box and it is displaying the same behavior with temp.

I see no ill effects from this and am getting pretty good battery life for my usage, it is more of an annoyance for my phone to get so hot though. It seems a little warm for just browsing the web or FB on Wi-Fi so who knows.

It never seems to be the battery temp, but the CPU temp that climbs and is responsible for the heat.

I should point out that I had a Speck Candy Shell Case on the first phone, but that case has since been broke and returned. It is possible that my first phone got just as hot but somehow the dual layer design of the case disappated some of the heat, but I still feel it on the bottom half of the screen. My EVO LTE didn't get this hot in the few weeks I have it, and I have an Airave at home where it still heats up so I think we can rule out signal strength as a cause.

Anyone want to chime in with thoughts or suggestions?

Network related I think. Not necessarily signal strength but a poor data connection.mine gets hot as hell at the Bottem where the antenna is when my data is horrid.my roommates s2/e4gt Does the Same thing except at the top of the phone where the antenna is on that phone. Which would explain the battery life not being affected. The poorer the network performance the hotter it is. Sound familiar to anyone? Put the phone in airplane mode.and stress it in any way possible.overclock and run a benchmark while trying to play a game.what ever comes to mind.just leave in airplane mode and I bet it doesn't get nearly as hot as what your describing. I had a galaxy nexus on Verizon that rarely got hot. Where as my mother just got a sprint galaxy nexus which gets hotter than any phone I've ever felt but only with poor data speed as well. I've hit 120·F on my s3. I've seen her gnex hit around 140·F. So I'm blaming the network

Yeah I would buy that but my Epic Touch never got that hot plus I have an Airave at home. Doesn't heat up as much for me in Power Save mode with the CPU Limited. I think the CPU may be the culprit.

Try this out;

I flashed via CWM and no more issues with heat at all. I also saw a decent increase in battery life.

Idk if there's a bug, but check with betterbatterystats and see if gsiff_daemon is running at the top of the list... if it is, it's probably causing the battery to get hot, along with draining battery. You can fix it by using Root Explorer and renaming that file to gsiff_daemon.bak , it's in system/bin

I'm having this issue as well and its kinda bothersome. I was going to post a new thread (glad s I searched first). I especially notice it when playing games, especially graphically intense ones like nova 3 or mass effect. The phone gets hot--real HOT. I'm coming from an evo 4g lte and it didnt get as hot. Love my s3 but I'm concerned I'm really gonna shorten its life by running so hot.

I've tried a few methods, the one in this thread and a few others and still a no go. I even went into root explorer and renamed giskk_daemon. I honestly think it's the menu bar on the white gs3. I had the blue one and had no problem until I recently exchanged it for the white one yesterday.
