Yes it works with the update that was pushed a few days ago. - 11.8.3.30-20141209
Thanks for the answer...without it I probably would have given up trying to root this device. It took me no less than twenty times with the process ending with a "Failed :(" message. One time it even kicked me into a weird demo mode for the tablet. Armed with your answer & the knowledge that sometimes timing plays a hand in whether a root attempt it successful I finally achieved root.

I don't know if it has any bearing on things, but the successful attempt was different only in that I didn't turn off the WiFi & forget the network before making the attempt after I had turned it on earlier to try a Google search to see if I could turn up anything regarding the problem.

So in regards to the lag issues. Have we determined they are just perceived sound issues? Will a software update/settings adjustment fix it? I have an me572c sitting under the Christmas tree. Will return and get an N7 if this device ends up being buggy.

Also....several people saying the Asus seems slower than the n7 and then I read other people say the asus is notably faster? I'm confused.

I will probably root the Asus but have had enough roming/flashing over the past 6 years to not care about the a plethora of custom ROMs.

My whole question is..... I HATE lag. Other than that...I don't care. Will the Asus piss me off?

I hate lag too I turned off the sound the tablet seems fine to me. You could always swing by best buy and try it out.

I don't think you'll experience lag in the OS in general (switching between apps, using apps, etc). At least, none more than is legitimate with 1.7ghz CPU and 2GB ram. I have experienced lag ever so slight, but I think that probably had to do with have lots of APPs in memory, or browsing/zooming/scrolling on especially overcomplicated or overpopulated web pages.. New Android devices need 3-4 GB RAM IMO, and this one only has 2GB. Maybe the 1.7ghz had soemthing to do with the *slight* website lag? dunno.

The primary lag you may experience is with typing fast and the sound/appearance of letters associated... I've personally noticed if I turn off all typing sounds (AND OS touch sounds) then the lag (or at least my perception of it) goes away (which is good enough for me). This did involve getting the Google Now Launcher + the Android Keyboard. = all available on the Play Store.

At this point I've decided to keep it... I've been able to work around the ASUS bloat-ware well enough.. Lag isn't pissing me off.. it generally just works.. but would prefer CyanogenMod for it. Not sure if I'll root it just to remain under stock conditions.. Maybe I'll wait for a decent clean ROM to bother rooting.

I Should note that NOT ALL ASUS APPS CAN BE DISABLED when you are on stock. They make you think so (can click disable and confirm it) but it doesn't actually happen (they are still in your app drawer and are, in fact, still enabled)

I've had quite a few Android devices over the years...and I actually have five Android devices in the house right now so I know how an Android device should perform. Caveats up front...I am not the primary user of the ME572 in my household and I can only speak of the experience I have had with the one ME572C we own, but there is no lag on this specific unit. Everything just freakin' flies. Apps are smooth and responsive and I haven't changed the keyboard or turned off the sound.

The screen is gorgeous. When I walked into Best Buy the display on the demo unit put almost every other tablet on display to shame & when we got our unit home it didn't disappoint. Color was bright, even, crisp with no backlight bleed anywhere. Markings on the box seem to indicate it was manufactured in September of this year so this isn't a new hardware revision or anything. However, these things are mass-produced in China. There are going to be variations on the assembly line.

I'm extremely pleased with this device, but it's not going to have much attention or development if Best Buy continues to be the only retailer in the U.S. to carry it. I think one retailer in the UK has an exclusive as well. Case choices are sparse, but I'm noticing a few more than there were a week ago so at least we're moving in the right direction.

One minor correction to something another poster said....the CPU is 1.83 GHz, not 1.7 GHz.

Thanks for the replies. I will probably stick with the me572c then unless I have issues specific to my device. Hopefully it gets lollipop....which seems like it would be Asus intent with 64 bit.

happy owner

I have the me572c for about a month now. .
I agree with Dark Vortex the machine is quick.
No lagging ore typing problems at all. It works with rocket speed.

My previous tablet was the nexus 2012. Maybe not the most modern tablet anymore, but the difference with the me572c is ages in the speed and reaction time.
Also no backlight bleed and a very good screen.

I rooted it according the methode above; two things are important: turn off wifi and count 7 seconds to restart.

I am very enthousiatic and not a second of regret I spend 199 euro's!

at the moment the bootloader is still locked which means no custom rom can be flashed. I rooted and removed all the bloatwares including the ASUS keyboard. When I did a factory reset non of those came back so I ended up having a tablet without any input method at all. Anyway I managed to return it back to JL because I dont want to wait for any longer to unlock the bootloader.

They have posted a stock firmware on their support site http://www.asus.com/us/Tablets/ASUS_MeMO_Pad_7_ME572C/HelpDesk_Download/ try restoring using that zip file.

So far support looks pretty good for this tablet, an update every month from ASUS. If it gets lollipop I will buy one for sure.

I haven't rooted yet because of my past experience with my AT&T s4. They locked the boot loader no custom recovery and no firmware updates after I rooted. I don't want this to happen again

This is why it is recommended that you *freeze* bloatware rather than uninstalling it. Only uninstall something if you are 100% positive the system will never, ever need it again....including a factory preset.

Bought mine yesterday, rooted it, recovered my apps, everything seems fine so far. The only lag I have experienced is on lock screen, unlock animation is choppy, but all in all it is a great tab!

Anyone know if we can use Xposed, due to bootloader being locked?

I downloaded the root apk..... Does nothing. Has a greyed out pic of a banana. Tells me to turn off WiFi which I did. still nothing. I did the firmware update. Does that lock out the root method?

When you hit the button, if it fails then try it again a few times. Also, it didn't work for me the first time I tried it. Keep retrying. And it also only seemed to work for me when I made it forget my wifi network, as instructed...

Give it a few more tries and let us know whether or not you have any luck. I thought it did nothing for me as well, but when I tried it a few more times it definitely rooted me properly.

Good luck!

Burgundy and Gold?

Hi all,
I heard in the news there are 3 color variants of ME572C: Black, Burgundy and Gold, but it seems only the black model is available? I've been watching the BestBuy website during the whole month, the black model is currently on sale, while the other two are "sold out online" without a single review. On Ebay, color models are all sold from Taiwan, with a rather insane price like 300. (And it seems Taiwan SKUs don't share the same ROM with international models, as ASUS release different factory image for them every time) I live in a place without local Best Buy, in fact I can't find this tablet from any local retailer, so I'm kind of stuck here.

Do you guys all get the black model or the color ones are available somewhere? Please share your info. Thanks!
