Black is only one available stateside I believe. Could be wrong though.

Also still no luck with root. Just a greyed out banana. No button. Is the banana suppose to have color? Is that the button? Following directions to the T, no luck. Forget WiFi. Turn off WiFi. Etc. Nothing.

Make sure you install RootZenFone 1.4.6.6r or higher. Older versions do not support this tablet.

Hey guys, is there a way to turn off the notification sound when you get an email? It's kinda annoying.
I think I found the way to turn those off.. Look in the main Android settings panel. Go to the "Sound" settings. In there you will see 4 settings for email received, email sent, etc.. When you select the setting for email, scroll all the way to the top of the list of possible sounds to choose and you should see an option that says "None"..

Let me know if that does it for you or not..

Really liking this device. Super quick. I disable sound for the keyboard on all my devices anyways so that perceived keyboard lag was a non issue for me.

Really is like a N7 upgrade. Hopefully many others start to jump on board and maybe get some ROM support. If not... No biggie as long as it gets lollipop through Asus.

Agreed 100% and the battery life is absolutely phenomenal!

Hi everyone, needless to say this thread has been a Godsend! There really is no information out there regarding this awesome tablet.

I have so far rooted using RootZenFone 1.4.6.8r : http://23pin.logdown.com/posts/230216-root-rootzenfone-14r
The rooting procedure was a bit wonky. Here is how it went for me:

1. Download the .apk from above link. I downloaded it directly from the tablet.
2. Go to your downloads folder and install .apk.
3. After installation, run it. Make sure to turn off wifi and forget networks.
4. Press "root" button on bottom.
5. After a few seconds I was expecting a prompt to reboot device but instead it kicked off a "demo mode". I exited the demo and rebooted.
6. After reboot I installed SuperSU from app store.
7. Run SuperSU, it may prompt you to install SuperSU binaries, do it.
8. Reboot and you should now be rooted.

Using Titanium Backup to remove unwanted apps was the next thing I did. I'm sure there are other utilities out there that do the same thing, I'm just used to using this one.
This is the part where you have to be careful. I only removed some of the Google apps as well as most of the blatantly obvious ASUS bloatware.

So, what if you remove the wrong apps and your ME572C starts to have issues (maybe you removed the ASUS keyboard and now have no keyboard). Fret not!
You can indeed use the stock firmware available on ASUS site: http://www.asus.com/us/Tablets/ASUS_MeMO_Pad_7_ME572C/HelpDesk_Download/ to set your device back to factory defaults. Flashing this .zip will also revert back to un-rooted state.

1. Download correct .zip. There are several versions available and they are device specific. I used Version WW_V11.8.3.30. Make sure you verify the SKU of your device and download the appropriate .zip.
2. Copy .zip to the root of your device. I did it all from the tablet. Downloaded .zip, used file manager to move .zip from Downloads folder to root of device.
3. Reboot.
4. After device reboots, you will get a prompt asking if you want to update device. Do it and you will be back to factory fresh, un-rooted status.

Hope this info is helpful to someone. Does anyone know if any of the popular recoveries can be installed?

is anyone having wifi disconnection issues when screen turns off?
Look in the main settings screen under the power consumption options.. You can change a setting in there that determines whether or not it will maintain the network connection when the screen is off..

Let me know if that fixes your issue or not..

Hope this is helpful!

If you are rooted, the risk is high, that the OTA update and the provided update from ASUS website abort the update process, because you have changed the system partition.
Unfortunately ASUS provided only an update.zip, that you can only flash directly from an OS bootable device, no PC flashtool and no real system image.
As long as nobody can confirm that rooting and further updates are possible, I don't root my device.
Unfortunately informations about the ME572c are hardly to find in the internet.

One question: We can reboot into bootloader or recovery with adb. Has anyone managed to boot into this on boot ? Power and volume up or down doesn't seem to work.
edit:
Found the solution:
- Press power until the screen flashes, release power and hold volume-up - boots into bootloader.
- in bootloader: select "SD DOWNLOAD" starts into recovery

fastboot oem unlock doesn't work. so no boot loader unlock. :(

So In theory we should be able to flash the stock ASUS firmware from recovery, right? When I copied the .zip to the root of my device recovery did not see it. Is there a specific folder it has to be placed in? Once the device booted up it automatically detected the .zip and prompted me to flash it. Would be nice if this could be done from recovery as well in case the tablet is not booting.

Is it safe to perform an system update while the device is rooted?
I was able to flash the latest firmware .zip from the ASUS site. My device was rooted and it reverted to un-rooted after the flash. I have not experienced any issues.

I can tell you that my tablet was rooted for a day when the I noticed that the last OTA update was ready for installation. So I went ahead and installed it. Rebooted the tablet and checked for root with root checker and it retained the root even after the update. That's my experience, and just wanted to share.

Also wanted to mention that I have done this with several tablets before including multiple rooted kindle fires and Nexus 7. I think the Fires retained the root while the N7 needed re-rooting after upgrade (oTA). But I play around with the N7 quite a bit and install all kinds of ROMs and kernels and screw around with it all the time and eventually end up with the stock firmware.

This is interesting, it retained root privileges after OTA update. When I first got the tablet home and fired it up it downloaded two separate OTA updates. Both where under 150MB. However the firmwares available on the ASUS site are almost 1GB. It stands to reason the OTA is literally just an update whereas the .Zip's on the ASUS site contain the entire kernel/OS/applications and thus flashing them literally wipes the device and reinstalls everything.
