So I am on pure stock Lollipop 5.0.2 for Moto G, and I need to root it to flash custom CM12.1 builds.

Can someone please guide me on unlocking the bootloader and doing other stuff on Moto G running lollipop?

Well first of all you don't need to root your phone to install cm12. What you have to do is unlock your boot loader (check Motorola's website) then flash a custom recovery such as TWRP and flash the ROM with g-apps. Will make a quick guide later today if you need it.
