I contacted them and this what they said to me

Dear zer0,

Thank you for contacting HTC support regarding your HTC Wildfire.

I understand you are enquiring about the locked bootloaders on our handsets.

The reason we have locked bootloaders is due to the amount of repairs we have to service, as other ROMs damage the phones.

It is for this reason we no longer allow other ROMs to be installed on our range.

I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required.

I hope that this information meets with your requirements, should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again. If this response has resolved your query, and you have no further questions please close this ticket by following the link below. Upon closure of the ticket you will be invited to complete our Customer Satisfaction Survey which should take no more than 1 minute to complete.

To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number 11NLCW22ENA000059.

Sincerely,

Olga

Then the approach they should have taken was.

"If you root your phone, you're on your own"

(Hey thats catchy they can use that if they want)

Basically if I screw up my phone then thats my bad. I realize every noob who tries to root their phone and screws up doesn't think that way but HTC's should just say stiff **** to them. Not lock down the damn phone. It's like censorship. I should be able to choose not have the choice taken from me.

I wrote them back and asked them make a tool for unlocking all HTC with a policy "when used your warranty will be void"
So waitng for a reply back I also gave them the link to look at the petition so they can see angry, dissapointed HTC users.

I also told them let the user decide what to do with their phone.
