Hardware Problem

I have the same exact problem.

What happen to me is my kid tried to use another charger by forcing to fit my wife's ZTE F188 charger into my Desire HD.

Then after that, my phone is not recognized by my machines. Even on windows and linux which I normally access my phone before and doing tethering for my laptop. Internet pass-through in the office.

The problem here might be the hardware. I will be sending my phone back to where I bought it since I haven't rooted my phone yet (Thank God!).

Will probably sent update after 2 weeks after my phone is sent.

Try using different cable.some charging cable cannot be usedvto sync with your computer.i also think its more of hardware problem rather than softwar

Same here. 4 different cables, 4 different computers.

Well, for me it worked perfectly, then i rooted it and formated the sd-card, then it didnt work, and there is no Dalvik-Cache. Cant it have to do with that?

Hi.
I've got the same problem. My Desire HD went for repair 2 weeks ago and returned today. The problem is still there. It is not shown in the windows device manager, doesn't connect to the computer (as usb drive or modem i.e.), but recognizes usb-connections.
I hope it's only a software problem and will be fixed with the 2.3.3 update?

I have the same problem, I think you will find you don't have the Android phone USB driver, check in device manager. My problem is I can't find the driver to add?

edit: Found an application that fixed the problem, it's called PdaNet .

Same happened here.
Removing and reinserting the (same) SD card did the trick for me.
Sounds weird, and it might not be the solution, but it worked for me.

hey guys,

just FYI, i had a similar problem but its working fine now.
just wanted to post here, maybe it helps some of you :)

USB stopped working entirely on my Desire HD, when connecting to ANY PC the phone charged but nothing popped up on the PC, OR the DHD for that matter.
  • no USB logo in the Android tray on my Desire HD!
  • no USB logo in the Windows tray on any PC i tried
  • no USB mode query in Android on how to connect to the PC (disk drive, charge, etc) on my Desire HD, even though the "ask me" how to connect was checked
  • no USB mode option when drawing the Android task bar down either
  • no USB query in Windows on how to browse my Desire HD
  • the PC would see a disk drive connected to it, but it was transparent (hidden disk drive?) and when clicking on it windows couldnt access/find a drive

this really scared me, i tried many cables and PCs and thought the USB port on my phone might be busted... but guess what, this is all it took to fix it:

reboot the phone... 0_o
hope this helps somebody...

Sorry to raise an old post but this might help other people when searching an answer to this question...

I have the same problem and it's the phone, not the cable or the software running on the phone.

If you put the phone flat down on a surface and plug the cable in you get the charge mode only (yellow light on the top of the phone). If you hold the phone still and then hold the cable about 5cm away from the phone and lift it upwards you'll hear the windows da-ding and it will give you the options to change to storage mode etc etc. Let go of the lead and it will go ding-da and go back to charge only mode.

I've got this on my phone and have tried 2 different leads and it's definitely the phone. You need to send it in for repair as I'm going to do with mine tomorrow after writing this post!!!

Really old thread, but I had the same symptoms for a long time and finally found the root of my problem. It was something as stupid (and simple to fix) as pocket lint! I was really surprised because I had already checked the USB port and couldn't really see any problem with it, but once I started digging out the lint it seemed to never stop.

In my case the USB cable would often fall out while charging and when connecting to a computer I was able to charge but the computer would not find the phone (HTC Desire HD). After cleaning the USB port the cable doesn't fall out and it's connecting to the computer properly.

Here's the youtube video that helped me: youtube.com/watch?v=R6p0Eg-yq3A
Apparently I can't post links on this forum since I'm new, so you'll just have to enter the above URL manually.
