[Q] ICS upgrade USB problems?

i can charge my phone with the usb and thats about it. i cant get any cpmputer to recgonize my gs2 and i think thats the reason i cant get into download mode which is what i really want. i have tried al of the different methods of getting into usb mode. i have tried re installing kies and nothing. i have odin running when i connect the phone to the usb and nothing. kkies doesnt recognise it either. i have tried to take out the batter and plug in the usb holding +- vol butttons and nothing.

PLZ HELP ME!!!!

any advice you have to offer would be very much appreciated

Are you using the stock charging cable? Not all micro usb will be recognized on a comp with this device.

To get into recovery is when you press volume+- and power. For download it think it's volume down and power.

I had the same problem with my SGH-T989 phone. I attempted the upgrade on Kies via two different Windows 7 laptops, and even resorted to using an iMac to attempt the upgrade via Kies for Mac. After 7 factory resets, attempting the use Samsung's factory code to change my USB port to 'PDA' I ended up spending about 2 hours on the phone with T-Mobile and subsequently Samsung's technical support.

To make a long story short, they proceeded to RMA my phone and its taken them about 3 weeks to perform a repair on the USB port on my device. I don't know if this is a widespread problem or if I was just unlucky, but I am just hoping that when I get the phone back tonight (its on the UPS truck now) they went to the trouble up upgrading the ROM for me!

I hate to say it, but its more than likely user error. If your phone is on, do a battery pull. Then once you put the battery back in, what you're going to do is hold down both the volume up and down buttons and press and hold the power button. When it vibrates once, let go of the power button and continue to hold the volume + and - buttons. It'll go into recovery.

To get into download mode, you do the same as above, but when the phones vibrates once, release the power button and insert your USB cable into the phone. It'll kick you into download mode.

In my case, I had successfully gotten my phone into recovery mode a number of times. I got the phone back last night and Samsung had gone through the effort of loading 4.0.3 on it. So far ICS is working very well and I'm happy to have my SG2 back.

I dread if there is another pushed update that is available only through the kies software. Hopefully there will be an alternative method available via the SD card, else one may resort to rooting and a custom rom for good measure.
