Has anyone found a fix to this?
I've been having this for about two weeks. and I've looked in almost every forum and could not a solution that works.
I've done everything from hard reset, factory reset, not installing viber/skype, tried using soundabout, change the network settings, and probably a few more suggested solutions that just doesn't seem to work.
any help is much appreciated.
I still have this problem too.

But learned to live with it

If i close the phone app, open it up again. try to make a few calls to voicemail I always get this scratching sound before the call. but the 3rd call and afterwards works.

Until it happens all over again. start from scratch

I always try to phone voicemail first - if that works, then the next call works.

I've been having a similar issue, although I lose all call audio both Bluetooth and earpiece. The microphone is also not working so nobody can hear me either. It's been driving me nuts!

So here's the rundown for all my details. I have the AT&T SGH-I537 on Firmware I537UCUCNE3 Android 4.4.2. I recently rolled the Baseband back to I537UCUAMF1 in hopes that it would fix it, but unfortunately it's still doing the same thing. However it does get much better 4G & LTE reception now. My Bluetooth device is a Jabra SP700 speakerphone kit. It worked great with the MF3 4.2.2 firmware and I even had some nice Tasker automation working with it, but I've disabled Tasker altogether in trying to track things down. I also recall something similar with the ML2 4.3 update, but not nearly as bad as this.

From what I can tell, if I make or receive a call over the Bluetooth kit, things are fine at first. Once I hang up everything goes to Hell. If I try to place a call, the phone makes a little blip sound and then it's just dead air. I can't hear anyone and they can't hear me. It's the same whether I'm connected to Bluetooth or just trying to use the earpiece. I think it also interferes with incoming calls because I've done tests with having people call me back after the call and it doesn't come in.

I have tried disabling Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi, and even going to Airplane Mode. I have disabled Tasker completely. I have avoided using Waze or any other navigation. So far the only thing that makes the phone usable again is to reboot it. I haven't yet tried messing around with the headphone jack. That may come next.

I just wish I could put ML3 4.2.2 back on it. Everything since then has been terrible. And now I'm out or warranty on the phone, so it's not like I can get it replaced. If I can get this resolved, it will last me until I replace it with a Project Ara device. Otherwise, I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

EDIT:
Well after a lot of testing, I ended up flashing stock NE3 back and now it's working again. So it must have been something that I did or had installed that caused the whole mess. So nevermind all that.

I'm completely lost now. I have tried EVERYTHING.
the only thing that work is take our the battery, leave it our for about 30 seconds, put it back in, turn it on, and have sound for 2-3 calls.
Is there no fix for this, with so many people having this problem there's gotta be a solution.
In the Meanwhile I've been talking to people using the voice message feature in WhatsApp, and i stop hearing sounds in that too sometimes, but then a simple restart solves it.
If anyone has found or heard for a solution to this. I would be grateful, the internet is failing me :(

After a lot of testing, I found that there is an issue with the "OK Google" hotword listening in Google Search. Whenever I have “From any screen” and well as “From lock screen” enabled, it will kill my phone audio after the first call I make over Bluetooth. After that I need to reboot the phone. I created a separate link for that issue here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-active/help/att-galaxy-s4-active-bluetooth-device-t2851852

I'm not sure if it's related to this issue or not, but I would suggest disabling the settings if you are using them and see if that makes any difference.

Not sure if my fix will work on your phone, but I had the speaker changed last week and so far no problems. I am slowly getting confident that I can rely on S4A as a phone also, not just tiny surf tablet.

No In-Call Sound Unless On Bluetooth

Ok, So I'm having the same issue and have tried everything from new sim-card to flashing a factory rom and updating to the newest baseband. No luck... So I got to thinking on when I first noticed the problem and what did I change that could be the culprit... I realized it happened right around the time I got a Bluetooth adapter for my car (Mpow® Portable Bluetooth 3.0 Audio Music Streaming Receiver Adapter with Hands Free Calling and 3.5 Mm Stereo Output) to be exact. Since pairing my device with this dongle is when the problems started, something about the connection screwed up my phone or it's just a crazy coincidence. I'm not an expert on Bluetooth but I'm guessing when you pair a device it sends a signal to your phone to redirect all in-call sound over Bluetooth and out whatever speakers you have connected. My guess is once I disconnect from my device there is no signal telling it to switch back. Like I said, I'm obviously going off assumptions and don't really understand the in's and out's of Bluetooth technology but in my head this made sense. So what I'm going to do is keep my Bluetooth turned off for a week and see if it comes back. If not, then I'll only connect to my wife's car (a built-in) Hyundai Bluetooth and make sure my phone stays functioning with Bluetooth enabled. If it continues to work that should confirm that the pairing process with certain devices are causing the issue. If anybody's situation is different and disproves this crackpot theory please let me know.
