Haha, I was typing this really detailed post on TB still not backing up/restoring anything after doing everything in this thread but just a few minutes ago TB gave a notification that I should turn off 'Mount namespace separation' in SuperSU. I did that, rebooted and everything worked! :D

FYI (if it helps anyone):
Enable "Migrate system data" in TB settings. App processing mode can be set to AUTO, Direct.
I formatted the Ext4 partition before linking back stuff with Link2SD, that always gives me trouble otherwise.
TitaniumBackup folder is settled on the root of the external SD (not /storage/emulated/legacy), it can stay there.
Read-write access was already enabled (SDFix told me).
Don't bother with batch restore, it'll freeze up after one or two apps.

Phone: Acer Liquid E3 (E380) single sim
Android: 4.4.2
ROM: MyROM 3.0.015 (migrating from 2.0.002 after complete wipe)

Helped to me:
http://lavairisx8.blogspot.ru/2015/09/solution-titanium-backup-backup-failed.html
These error mainly occurs when you've installed Chainfire SuperSU over any other super user app. Just follow the below instructions to solve these errors,

Open SuperSU and move to Settings tab.
Now scroll till you find Security.
Notice that Mount namespace separation is already checked, now uncheck it and reboot your device.
Done.!!
Now backup/restore your apps.
Share this post otherwise Titanium Backup wont work ;)

For me too. Other solutions is not working.
I had that issue pop up, i tried uninstalling and clearing cache and using SD Maid to wipe orphan and unused files. Rebooted and installed from play store TI Backup and setup the settings. If that does not work check R/W permissions on SD. Either mod your system/etc/platform.xml file or use a utiltity to allow read write on SD. Sometimes TWRP patches over write good files unintentionally, due to lack of insight by the creator.

I don't get it: tried changing backup locations, tried changing the thingy in SuperSU, but no go. It says external SD is not writable, while RootExplorer clearly says R/W. Internal SD is writable with plenty space, but still doesn't work.
If I uninstall and then reinstall TB, will it still see the apps I've frozen? Or should I defrost before uninstalling?

Just to answer my own question, for the sake of possible others who have the same problem, this worked for me:

go to TiBu -> Menu -> Preferences -> Backup folder location -> Storage provider (click to change)

From there, choose DocumentProvider and choose the root directory of your SD card. That granted TiBu access to the SD card. I was able to choose my old backup directory and successfully backup my apps.

thank you for the info, that helps momently in TB, but not resolve the problem of writing on SD
I'm on Resurrection Remix 5.6.8 MM6.01 on a XT1524, and the problem of name and authorizations of the SD card is a pity (the camera can't write on the sd card!!!)
I go back to cm12.1 on Marshmallow, never had problems with it

I just read that the 4.3 update and the 4.4.2 kitkat update broke the ability to write on the ext. sd card, Changing the r/o to r/w in root explorer does not fix the ability for titBU to write to the ext sd card. The fixes above are not even available to me. Is there another way to fix this "broken" kit kat ext SD to make it writable? I cn change it to storage or sd1 internal storage to BU, but it uses up so much space I want to BU to my 64 gb ext sd card.

---------- Post added at 01:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:56 AM ----------

For anyone having this problem- This fixed it- a simple app from the app store- IF you are rooted!

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix

Install, follow the prompts, reboot, and I am now using titBU to BU my apps to my Ext. Card!;)

I wish this break of function was a little more well known. It would have saved me a huge headache and time. But that's how you learn I guess.

If I have helped you, please hit my thanks!:D
It's work for me, thanks.

This method worked!! Thanks. I received the error for the past couple of scheduled backups.
