[Q] Is anybody else downloading apps very slowly from the Market?

I tried a few more newly-delivered Atrix units at a few different AT&T stores. They all had the same defect. What the hell is going on here? Is this a common problem for the Atrix or am I just absurdly unlucky?

I sent it in to Motorola for repairs. If it comes back with the defect, I'm giving up on this phone. I hope they can fix it.

download speeds

I do find this annoying, I get about 2.2-2.5MB/s download and .8MB/s Upload on wifi. And the market is a crispy 250KB/s download (in aprx total download speed of all files.) which is why I stopped using it, almost.

Maybe I'll switch out till they give me one that works good off the market. Guess Im on Atrix #5 now, in 3 weeks.

same and different problems

I've suspected the same, that the downloads are being throttled sometimes. I'm on a university connection, to downloads should be way faster, unless either Google or AT&T is throttling them.

Another problem I've encountered is that the market seems to lose connectivity randomly. I get the "connection could not be made" (or some variation of that), even though I'm clearly connected to Wi-Fi. I have to tap retry, and then it starts again. Is this an issue on other Android devices?

They have to be throttled, I download at least 3 times faster on a Nexus One. Randon koss of connection is a general thing I believe though, I always had it.

...unbelievable. Motorola couldn't fix the problem, so they sent me a brand new Atrix instead. And it STILL had the same problem.

And because it wasn't the same phone I got from the AT&T store, I had to pay the $35 restocking fee.

Man, this sucks. :\

Dunno what you are all talking about:

They aren't talking about slow wifi speeds they are talking about it only downloading apps from the market slower than it used to or slower than other android devices.

I've noticed sometimes it does seem to download slower. Not sure why. Doesn't happen all the time for me though.

These are the same download speeds I get downloading from the Market.

Then you're lucky. Whenever I downloaded from the market, I'd never get speeds above 250 kb/s. But with my Captivate on the same wifi connection, I'd get up to 3 mb/s (the limit of that wireless connection).

Just tested again in Airplane mode, and downloaded Inotia 3 (16.65 MB) in 5 seconds.

Tapfish (7.71 MB) in 3 seconds.

Paradise Island (24.62 MB) in 8 seconds.

I understand you don't have the problem, but I had the problem in several Atrix units in a row. Is there no way to fix it? I had to pay a $35 restocking fee the last time after I gave up, even though the units were defective.

I would like to get an Atrix, but I'd have to pay a restocking fee again if the unit I get has the same defect, so I'd like to know if it's possible to fix.
