[Q] Is it possible to reflash Captivate modems for T-Mobile?

There was some buzz a couple of weeks back about reflashing the modems in the Samsung Galaxy Note to gain access to T-Mobile's HSPA+ network.

Is there anything comparable for the Samsung Captivate? I realize we're talking about 3G here and not LTE. I want to take my Captivate, which is SIM unlocked, to My Simple Mobile. But they run off T-Mobile's network. I've searched around and have come up empty.

FWIW, I'm running CM7 and not the stock ROM.

The Captivate's hardware isn't physically capable of HSPA+. I haven't heard about using these modems, but as stated above, usually the deal with T-Mobile is EDGE only. I don't think Vibrant (T-Mobile) modems work, so there doesn't seem to be a solution.

captivate technically is a 3g device, we only get hspa by using a re-oriented i9000 kernel and an i9000 modem. because its the same hardware... <backspace rant>

Only EDGE

You can only get EDGE on your Captivate. It is a hardware issue. You cannot do anything about it. I have mine running on T-Mo and unless somebody has a way of physically changing the hardware to upgrade the capability it will never be more than a fake 3G because EDGE isn't even really 3G. It is more like 2.75 G if there was such a thing.
