I was thinking the same thing. I hardly ever use my phone except well, to make calls. There is constantly a bunch of AT&T crap running and it just doesn't have that personalized feel:(

I'm thinking about putting it on ebay since I really don't want it anymore as is.

No it doesn't. All it does is override Modelid.
I thought we need more than a gold card or is it that simple? Has anyone tried this out?

Edit: we need more than a gold card. What does the xtc clip do other than make gold cards that makes it possible to root?

A gold card will only allow you to install a HTC ROM that has a different model id. For example, if you have an AT&T branded Aria, a gold card would allow you to run a RUU for the Hong Kong Aria or European Gratia and debrand it.

It has already been proven that flashing another RUU with a different HBOOT version will install the ROM but it WILL NOT over write the current HBOOT 1.02, so you wouldn't be able to root.

That is what I have heard as well. I have tried this gold card method and it does not work. The RUU fails trying to write hboot.

OK, so it seems the only way to overwrite the current HBOOT is to gain S-OFF on the Aria, which is what the XTC Clip can do.
