[Q] Is there difference between N5120 & SGH-i467M

Just bought a used Note 8 with LTE. I thought that was a N5120, but in the ABOUT section it calls it an SGH-i467M.

What do I have?

As far as I know the only difference between GT-N5120 and SGH-i467M is that SGH-i467M is the model number used by AT&T in the USA and Roger's in Canada. But take that with a grain of salt -- I'm a GT-N5110 (Wi-Fi) owner.

Thanks Spidey01. I hear conflicting things, some say I will brick it if I use the 5120 ROM (4.2.2) and some like you say it's a name. Not ready to take a chance yet.

You might be able to ask your national branch of Samsung support but I'm honestly not sure they would know the difference. Their websites not very clear as far as I know. Here in the USA, it's classified as the SGH-I467ZWAATT for the LTE model and AT&T only.

They offer the Note 10.1 2014 on 2 out of 4 major carriers (T-Mobile, VZW) and the Note Pro 12.2 on 2 out of 4 major carriers (AT&T, VZW).


When I bought my Note 8, I went with the Wi-Fi only GT-N5110 because the 3G based GT-N5100 cost an too much via Amazon, darn imports.

hmmm for a moment I had to look that 5120 model up. I see that it is the 3G, 4G/LTE, Wifi version. I only have the 5110 Wifi version.
Anyway, according to Samsung you have the AT&T US version.

Yup. It's a basterdized version of the 5120. There is no microphone, can't use any voice programs. They didn't want people using it to make phone calls. You wonder why I hate Rogers.

But I've also heard that if you try to put a 5120 ROM on, even if you use the Rogers LTE radio, you will brick it. Pretty sad. And they won't update it from the original 4.1.2.

No Microphone! hmm Well I guess I can cross out that model off my list. In another thread I mentioned that I plan on selling my wifi version and get the AT&T version and use it on T-Mobile but if there is no microphone than like you said, you can't make calls.
Guess I will have to get either the more expensive international version GT-N5100 or GT-N5120.

Just a point of clarification, there are several differences between the N5100 and i467 that make it unsuitable as a primary phone. Besides the lack of a microphone, there's no ear speaker. Most importantly, there is no phone app, and nobody has been able to develop one that works reliably (there's a thread dedicated to this topic). So calls on an i467 would be VoIP.

Lastly, the N5120 is not well suited for the US, it has different frequency bands than the N5100. If you're using AT&T's or T-Mobile's network, get the i467 or the N5100, there is no advantage to getting the N5120.

I don't have the i467, but I assume calls can be made using a headset. Prior to the N5100, I had a Tab 7.7 and made calls via VoIP using the speakerphone or bluetooth headset.

There is a mic in the AT&T SGH-I467 Note 8. Just that it has no radio for voice communication. I use Skype to make phone call voice over ip. I should wish AT&T is not all the users of this model. They have consistently delay the release of any Android updates since 4.1.2

Doncha love the info peeps put out about the I467 model. Makes me wonder who to trust on these threads.

I have an AT&T model right now in the UK doing very well mind you... VOIP works using Text Plus.

Just have to sort out blasted SIM cards. As Britain does not play well with Belgium and Belgium does not play well with Holland. Like You need a SIM for every country in Europe. Bloody hell!!!!

The AT&T SGH-I467 has a microphone and places VoIP calls superbly. I use it all the time. Please people. Do some research before presenting information that is not correct (i'm not saying your post was incorrect harry_fine). Incorrect info (models, specs, so forth) pollutes the threads and adds confusion to some already confusing topics for new users. -smiles-

If there is no microphone, how does the camera record with sound? Look directly above the power button, you will find the microphone (at least on the I467)

I know this is an old thread, but since no one has responded to my new thread, I will ask my question here.
I have an I467 (yes, it has a mic, but NO phone app. You use VOIP instead) that needs an LCD/digitizer replacement.
The price of this assembly is quite high if it is advertised specifically for I467. I guess they are the Samsung OEM part.
The LCD/digitzer for N5100 or N5110 are cheaper. However, will they work on I467? Many sellers on eBay claim their LCD/digitizer will work for *BOTH* N5110 and I467 because they think I467 is Wi-Fi only too just like N5110. This is obviously a mistake. I467 is 4G LTE. I have it working in my hand!
However, since LCD/digitizer is not a function related to radio, just because N5100 is 3G, it doesn't mean its LCD would work on I467. Likewise just because N5110 is Wi-Fi only, it doesn't mean the display won't work on I467. I see it more like a mechanical fitting issue. Does anyone know for sure?
Lastly, does N5120 have the exact same hardware as I467 but differ only in software (e.g it has been programmed with different frequency bands)?

p.s. unrelated subject but a hard learned lesson to share. I467 (AT&T) has a locked bootloader. My understanding is I467M (note the ending -M) is the Canadian version, which is not locked, but I am not sure. Now this bootloader is so restricted that even if you download a STOCK ROM specifically for I467 (AT&T) posted online, it can still brick the phone! It happened to my first I467. I got a message saying software not authorized by AT&T has been detected, but it was an I467 *STOCK* ROM! Obviously AT&T has several different I467 ROMs, and those online resources do NOT have all revisions. Unless you put the same revision that you get from OTA or Samsung Kies, the bootloader would still reject it.

SGH-I467 is the AT&T version. SGH-I467M (note the ending M) is the Canadian version. Many people are mixing these two, but the difference can get you!
The AT&T version has the bootloader locked, but the Canadian version is UNLOCKED.
It is very easy to root SGH-I467M but much harder with an SGH-I467!
With a locked bootloader, I had to try many different tools and finally was able to root with Kingo Root (not Kingroot).
GT-5120 has an earpiece and proximity sensor. SGH-I467 does NOT. I don't know if SGH-I467M has these 2 hardware since mine is SGH-I467.
Although all 3 are LTE, since GT-5120 is an international version, it wouldn't have the same frequency bands as SGH-I467 or SGH-I467M.

SGH-I467 is AT&T (no ending M), but SGH-I467M is made for the Canadian carriers.
Though they are almost identical, they do have one vital difference. SGH-I467 has the bootloader LOCKED while SGH-I467M does NOT.

Since both SGH-I467M and GT-N5120 have unlocked bootloader, I was thinking about buying a GT-N5120 motherboard and swapping it into my SGH-I467. I wasn't planning on buying a SGH-I467M motherboard because I couldn't find them. Though GT-N5120 has international frequency bands not available in the U.S., with an unlocked bootloader, I thought I could just swap in my carrier's, T-Mobile, modem code.

Now I don't think it is doable at all. I have a Canadian Galaxy S4, SGH-I337M (bootloader unlocked, unlike the AT&T version). I tried to download T-Mobile's modem to my S4 thinking it may give me better data rate. Odin prompted Fail! (Auth) and S4 showed Secure Check Fail! After some googling, I realize regardless of unlocked bootloader, these phones/tablets are engineered to check if authorized modem codes are being flashed. I know for sure my S4's bootloader is unlocked because I have installed TWRP for recovery.
Since GT-N5120 has international frequency bands, turning it into a North American tablet is DOA if another carrier's modem code cannot be installed. If anyone questions why a custom ROM can be flashed to a phone/tablet with unlocked bootloader, it is because a custom ROM seldom comes with the modem code!
