[Q] Issues after auto-update from Galaxy S from openpdroid-patched CM10 to CM10.1

Hi,

there was accidentally an auto update from CM10 that was patched with openpdroid to the normal CM10.1. I wasn't aware of this being able to happen, and the person I setup this phone for of course just applied those updates when it was asked for....

After the auto update most of the google apps seem to be failing, gmail runs a while, but then crashes, in the crash report it is always the play store having an issue (which does not work at all). Everything else seems to work fine.

I thought this is probably because of the openpdroid patches, so I used autopatcher to generate a patch for CM10.1 and applied this on top, but the play store still doesn't work.

Any help here? Should I just try to apply a zip of the current google apps for CM10.1 ( gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip ) ? Or would I destroy more than I would fix?

I would like to prevent making a full backup, wiping everything and put CM10.1+openpdroid+gapps on the device, because I never had backups and restoring correctly working with titanium backup, there were always some lost settings for some apps (and there are no alternatives, are there?).

Much thanks in advance for any help!

Hi,

i don`t use autoupdate ...

But for CM10.1 you need newer gapps ==> see here: http://goo.im/gapps

CM10.0 is based on Android 4.1.x and CM10.1.x is based on Android 4.2.x

So you should update the gapps and then it should work...

Hi thanks for the help,

yeah will report back if it worked as soon as I will have access to the phone again and can try it out.

I also didn't activate the auto updates, this somehow comes automatically with CM10... Yes of course it asks "do you want to apply the update". But as it wasn't me, the owner of the phone just happily pushed OK, not thinking about openpdroid patches or any other possible side effects....

In the settings of your device you can deactivate the automatic updates of CM...something like "manual" is the option ...

Thanks but, yeah now I know, but I wasn't aware that there are auto updates at all, and that I would of course need to disable it when patching openpdroid (at least for another person that would accidentally hit OK/apply)....

Maybe this should be written in the openpdroid autopatcher howto: "When patching newer ROMs (like CM10), there exist an auto updater, be aware that you should not apply the updates from it, when having openpdroid patched (best even disable it, so you can't accidentally hit "ok"). So if you want to use the auto-updater, use the restore zip and use it then, after that you need to use the autopatcher again on the image of the new ROM."

Btw after all the new gapps seems to fix it, the play store works now, thanks for the hint! But some apps still crash, uninstalling and reinstalling them seems to help then .. (but maybe it also has to do with the pdroid permissions being to restrictive for newer versions of the apps or something like that ...)

Have you tested cleaning the apps cache???

What CM do you use??? 10.1.2 Ort newer nightlys???

Yeah I tested cleaning cache and dalvik cache, but now it seems that all of the non-working apps are due to pdroid restrictions, seems that this behaves a bit different in 10.1., or because some of those apps and openpdroid both got updated and there are some differences.

And yes, it is whatever the CM updater gave me, which is 10.1.2, though I am not sure if this results in exactly the same installation as when installing 10.1.2 directly?

Anyway, I think there are no errors anymore now, thanks!

I think there are old files of the apps on the device, or maybe I'm wrong?
If there are old files maybe they give you these errors and made this confusion.... I think you need to wipe old apps files
If you tried this already or my suggestion is wrong excuse me for the post :)

Hi,

the idea of Al0one3 is very good...

So when you can restore all of your settings you should to a "clean" install with wipe cache and so on ...

This way should be the best...:good:
