I got a refurbished Xoom MZ601 WiFi + 3G from Amazon and it arrived today. The device looks brand-new and untouched, even the plastic was still on it and the screen. Great, I thought, until I powered it on and it was in German. I should have been tipped off by the EU power adapter in the box, although there was a US power cord as well.

Anyway, there was no option to change the language to English, fortunately I'm fluent in German and was able to update the OS to 4.0.4 and then the English (US) language option was available.

So here's the thing: the tablet works perfectly, except for one thing: there's a Verizon 4G LTE SIM in the device, but there does not seem to be any evidence of EvDO, even though that's what I thought I had purchased. I've tried using mobile data, but the only two networks the device sees are AT&T and T-Mobile. Removing the SIM card has no effect on the function of the device, but no 3G or 4G, for that matter.

So here are my questions:

- Is it possible that this is a U.S. version that was flashed to a different software, making the CDMA hardware invisible to the OS? I'm thinking this is a possibility, since AT&T and T-Mobile use micro-SIM cards for 4G, not mini-SIM cards, which is what is in there now.

- Is there some sort of diagnostic app that will scan and show me exactly what hardware IS in the device?

- Would some kind of serial number or baseband version information be able to tell me what it is?

- And finally, what are my options? If this isn't a Verizon device, that won't help me, as that's what I thought I was getting. If this can't be resolved by me, I'll have to send it back. I'm reluctant to do this until I'm absolutely sure there aren't any other options because the device is otherwise showroom new!

I'm new to the Android OS, so any help I can get is appreciated!
