i dont know anyone else with a xoom.

im starting to think this now though... as nobody really is commenting on their screen. Its as if everyone is ignore my question! Like when a dark scene is on i can barely see whats happening, can just see myself and whatevers behind me..

im starting to think it must be faulty as no one else is saying that its this bad?
LOL :) You are funny ... One thing that you could do is pick up your Xoom and go to your local BestBuy and put it side-by-side with iPad, Transformer, Fire ... and see how the other ones fare compared to yours, and let us know if the mirror effect was more pronounced on the Xoom or some other tablet. I've never read such a statement: "Hey, this is like a mirror, i can see my self ... it got to be faulty ..."
I'm curious to hear about your findings (if you ever decide to go to BestBuy and do side-by-side comparison) ...

Take care funny guy ... :D:D:p

there are no xoom's in shops in northern ireland anymore that i could find... everywhere has stopped stocking them or else i obviously would do that.

and the reason i said that is because no one else seems to have the problem/care that they cant make out the picture on the screen because of bad reflections.....

its all a figment of your imagination

the xoom screen has glass, of course its going to reflect, my car windows reflect me when i walk past, my window of my house reflects me, my mobile phone (every htc phone i've ever owned) has glass screen and reflect my face if i have a dark scene,

just make sure you are not shining light directly on it, sometimes it can't be avoided

ive been using my xoom for reading books, studying, learning, playing, etc. and my mind acknowledges the fact there is a reflection but my brain filters this out and ignores it so it doesn't bother me and im sure as is for the rest of the folk here

just relax and ignore it, its like the facts of life, you can't really do anything about it (well maybe test tubes or whatever compared to a matte screen if that is a crap analogy or whatever), it is the way it is

go on you tube and look at reviews for all good tablets like transformer prime, ipad etc. you will see reflection of the way they are tilting the glass,

if you have too much light around you then it will reflect more,

at night when my light is off and im reading in bed or whatever, my brightness is set to low using brightness widget (as brightness in system settings doesnt truly go down to 0) i get no reflections

mine definitely isnt like that.

for example, like yourself, i was using it in bed last night, all i had was the tv on and i could easily see my face and my stripey bedding! (by the way not just dark scenes, just every scene that isnt bright with alot of white)

its also definately alot more reflective than an ipad (my brother has an ipad 2 and i used to have an ipad 1) however i dont like ipads very much, to me they are just a big iphone.

i really dont know how you can see things on it, at night, just with a light on in my room, its just like a mirror :/

i bought some matte screen protectors tonight so im hoping they will do the trick.

I have both an iPad and Xoom...they both have about the same reflective surface. When its dark, I can see my face and everything around me (reflection) on it. Play around with the brightness setting and see if that helps. If not, use a matte screen protector. I bought one to use on the iPad, kept it on for a few months and now I just run around naked :) Both xoom and iPad have naked screen. Both does reflect a bit, but I'm OK with it with the brightness turned up.

Is there also any way to watch videos full screen without the bar with home button etc along the bottom?

Sent from my MZ604 using XDA

Yes, Let me clarify should you need to:

1) definitely root your xoom and upgrade to custom ROM of ICS from Nightlites EOS team. This will have the option to hide the status bar whenever you desire to. Rooting and upgrading to this custom ROM, wingray for your device MZ604 is pretty fast and easy. will help you if you need to.
2) If you download MX Player from the market, you will have the option to view movies full screen without the status bar and with subtitles.
3) brightness, yes. ICS is much better, much faster and very stable; especially the wingray ROM in the case of your device. I don't want to frighten you that there might be an issue with your screen HW, but for you to be in the safe side, just go back to your reseller and check another xoom how it looks like of the same ROM.

- Your custom ROM will be: Eos-wingray-102.zip. This is the latest ROM released on May 3rd. Very stable and everything works with it. No issues found.
http://goo.im/devs/teameos/roms/nightlies/wingray/
- Your GOOGLE APPs (GAPPs) would be: gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
http://goo.im/gapps

Full thread in details is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400958

To summarize in steps:

First, download the above ROM and GAPPs and put them onto your xoom internal and external SD card.

1) unlock your xoom and install recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242241
2) once your device is unlocked and has Recovery flashed, boot into recovery as instructed by the thread above.
3) From Recovery, perform full wipe data, wipe cache, and go to advanced, wipe dalvik cache and battery stats. Don't worry, if the ROM and GAPPs are deleted, which should not be the case, you will have them on your external sd card.
4) From Recovery, install the ROM from SD card. DO NOT reboot afterwards. Hold on.
5) Install GAPPs.
Then reboot now. It will take 2 - 3 minutes for the first reboot. Setup your google account. and you are good to go.

Later reboots will be much faster (around 40 - 50 seconds).

Advice: purchase Startup Manager from the market. Remove unwanted user programs from the startup. That will boost the boot time of your xoom. and don't remove superuser or superSU.

To have better battery life, from the market buy JuiceDefender ultimate. configure it as aggressive. don't worry, it is ok. This will give you around 2 hours of extra battery life than the promised 10 hours. Keep that in the startup.

You may need after that to install terminal emulator from the market to check if you have root permissions. Just type "su -"
you will be prompted with superuser check. Click allow. and then type "id"
You will see your id is root.

Should you require further details or assistance, please let me know. And enjoy the best rom customized ever for your device :)

Best Thanks to TEAM EOS for the great ROMs they provide.

After you are done with all that, let me know and will explain to you how to work with the pre-installed gooManager in the new ROM. It will make your life much easier to upgrade to future releases of your ROM.

NOTE: don't forget to hit the thanks button if you feel kind to :)

Cheers.

If the stores are not stocking them is irrelevant ... I think that i've suggested that you take YOURS (thought you have XOOM that you are concerned about the reflection) and compare with whatever tablets they stock ...

Take care ...

I have booted into recovery and am now trying to install the universal xoom root but having problems. it wont mount the sd card to install the zip file. on top of that, i cant get the xoom to even restart now, its stuck on a screen with an android guy on his back with a red exclamation mark coming out of his belly :/

Alright. I believe you have successfully installed recovery. First. Volume up with power button together pressed. You will get moto logo. 3 sec later. Press volume down. And again up. U will get to recovery again. Where did you put the files I told you about? Internal or external sd?

If you have unlocked your bootloader already, installed recovery , and already have ur rom and gapps in the internal sd , you are good. Just get to mount system and you will see your files. Then unstall them ... keep me posted.

You don't install the rom from computer. It must be from recovery. Install zip from sd card. Sd card in xoom means internal storage...

Got it installed! Tried a different SD card and it worked.

Not really noticing any differences in performance though, swiping between home screens is sluggish. What's the difference between this rom and the team EOS 2.0 one?

Congrats.... ok. How sluggish is it? Do you feel you fingers like sticking to the screen while swyping ?
Eos 2 is stable too but it is not nightlies build customization.

May i ask you to try to put a screen protector and try...

i meant laggy when swiping through home screens and laggy when opening apps (the actual things on the screen) not the actual touch of the screen!

For mx player. It is preferences settings. You need to change the encoding from hw to sw. For apps opening it is a the rom effects that can be disabled from the rom developers settings. Try that and reboot. Keep me posted. If your issue is not resolved. I am afraid you need to flash the rom again after you clean the dalcik cache.

Go into setting/developer options and scroll down til you see User interface. Set Window animation scale and Transition animation scale to .5 or to none, if none, cute little animations like crt power off if you have it won't work, but it is much more fluid.
Also, try a 3rd party launcher like ADW-EX or Nova or Launcher Pro and you can over clock your cpu a bit to get more "juice" to add to the fluidity. I never use a live wallpaper and that always helps. My Xoom scrolls so fast...
