Hey guys

This is my first post at XDA but I am not new to flashing ROM to my Captivate ;)

I have looked all over the forums but could not find an answer to my questions.

My Captivate was originally on Eclair, later upgraded to Froyo with lag fix and it fixed nothing. It was still really slow and unusable. I saw one of my friends running Gingerbread and man it was blazing fast. So I decided to try some Gingerbread.

First of all, my Captivate if 1008 batch. The three button to download mode is not supposed to work for this batch but it worked and I was able to get it back to stock ROM. I was able to use the stock ROM too so I decided to try upgrade to Gingerbread. This time the 3 button download mode did not work. So I did "adb reboot download" and put it into download mode and all problems started.

1. No USB port is detecting the phone.
2. The battery slipped out of the phone and after I put it back, it gave me the infamous phone--!--computer soft bricked state.
3. In Windows 7, No "3 button fix to put it to download mode with Odin3 open" is working
4. In Linux (Ubuntu 10.10), I tried the one-click-unbrick JAR file and the error is "Device Not Detected".
5. I have tried 2 different Micro USB cables and all possible USB ports, still no response.
6. Once I connect the phone to the computer, I get the phone--!--computer logo but lsusb does not show the device.
7. On Windows 7, Device manager does not show any USB device when I connect the phone.

So basically I think the problem is the device is not showing up on any USB port, so there is no question of ODIN, Hiemdall or One-click-anything. What should I do now?

Thanks

Have you tried cleaning the USB port on your phone with some rubbing alcohol and a small piece of cloth on a toothpick? Maybe it's just not making good contact.

Let me give that a quick try.

Two question.
1. Is the device supposed to be detected even in the soft bricked state by the OS?
2. Even in soft bricked state, is the battery charging? Cuz if its not, I need to order an external battery charger.

Thanks

If you haven't looked through it, check out the "Captivate Connection Issues and Download Mode Help" in my signature.

To answer your questions:
1. Yes. That screen is quasi-download-mode, and the OS should see it.
2. Honestly, I don't know. I think the answer is yes, but someone who understands the hardware better than I do would have to respond.

ok so i bricked my phone, then was able to make a jig which allowed me to get the gingerbread bootloaders installed on the captivate. Now, neither my laptop or pc cannot find the phone while it is in download mode. What should I do from here. I am running ginger bread and cannot make download mode work.
