[Q] Motorola Defy not shoing 512 ms ram - Only 343 mb? Plz help

Hi,

I have bought a new Motorola Defy set.

As per the specs Defy has 512 mb ram

But when I check the RAM via Settings -> Applications -> running services:

I can see the total ram shown at the bottom is only 343 mb. (including the free ram and the ram in use)

I am concerned regarding this. Is this the total available ram on my handset?

If not, is there a way to check the total ram on my set? any application for that?

Info - New phone, running on 2.2 stock. Not rooted and no plans to root or install any mod at least for some time (1-2 months)

Don't think you've got to worry, my total shown there is slightly less than 400 MB...

Not really worrying but I just want to see that this device really has 512mb ram just for my satisfaction. read lot of good stuff about defy but it has been just 2 days and it lags and hangs a lot. havent installed almost anything. just angry birds and opera mini and apn on/off widget

Also, despite lot of research before buying, got a green lens one

mine is showing 383mb of ram, so dont worry. about the lags and hangs, install cm7! and why are you disappointed? defys produced after april are green lensed, you should now that after a lot of reading. if you wanted red lens so bad, why didnt you wait for defy+?

Not true totally. Many people have reported Red Lens defy in India with June / July 2011 manufactured sets. Randomly people are getting Red/Green lens.

Anyways, forget the green lens thing. cant help it now.

But, is there any way to check the total ram?

I'm using Mini Info, and it's reporting I have 477MB of RAM available. You will never see the total 512 since the OS needs to use some, so what it needs is always subtracted. Either way what you see is usually way more than you ever need. I know you said you're not worried, so that's good. Just to note after reboot and the phone settles down it stays pretty steady at using 50MB out of the 477MB. It has gone up to around 200, but that is rare.

its not the os that needs the ram, its the gpu... thats why you wont see the whole 512mb ram.

Same difference. LOL. I just meant some is being used, so you won't see it all.
