@gooberdude I like your idea of using safe root but I don't understand what 'flashing' means nor what cloakroom is although I am guessing it's an app? Also what are substrate apps? @fmachado2906 as I said I don't know what flashing means.

Why does Samsung send some countries an update but not others? It's frustrating.

Google play, search rootcloak and substrate. They both are needed to hide root automatically from apps that detect rooting. THough you will have manually add the app to the add menu once. All other ways to hide root when needed require manual operation.

All popular methods to root require flashing via Odin or through a custom loader. Unfortunately any flashing non stock files enables the custom flag, which breaks updates.

My way does not need triangle away and is easy and safest way to keep a stock ROM, and root.

@Festivale26 flashing = downloading the firmware, opening Odin, setting up the firmware there and clicking on Start, not necessarily in this same order =)
By the way I'm tired of waiting, just downloading 4.2.2 and will try later.. I'll let you know how it went.
4.2.2 Done! Just downloaded Greece version (version doesn't really matter) from sammobile and flashed, updated flawlessly and all my apps and data remained intacts. Overall 4.2.2 performance seems higher than 4.1.2 and visually is much better too. Download mode shows that Build is official, which I suppose will not break future OTAs.

@fmachado2906 good that you got it to work, just for future reference the CSC for samsung Brazil is (BTA, BTM, TMR, ZTA, ZTM, ZTO or ZVV)

Correct me if I'm wrong the spoken language in Brazil is Portuguese right, you could have gotten the Portugal (TPH) version.

Awesome fmachado2906! So does it give you the ability to move apps to ext sd card?

@Festivale26 Sorry dude, do not have an external card yet to test it.

@Harjan112 you're right, it's portuguese in here... Mine was ZTO btw. Anyways, it is working just fine and language is in Brazilian Portuguese just as the previous one.. Correct if I'm wrong but I've always thought that CSC would matter (mostly) in regards to the radio, since my model is N5110 (without 3G/LTE) my assumption was that it would not matter - as long as WiFi worked.

Okay guys, so I have used Triangle Away and reset my counter. Removed root via Super SU and then uninstalled any root specific apps.

OK now I am wanting to put 4.2.2 on it. At your advice Harjan112 I downloaded 4.2.2 using a BTU firmware file (took hours lol!). Anyway, not sure how to 'flash 4.2.2 stock firmware (that I downloaded)'. Does the BTU firmware .zip file contain any other files or drivers I require?

I have Odin 3.07 which is what I originally used to root my device. So do I do the same procedure basically I used to root it?

This is what I think I am supposed to do (please correct if wrong):

1. Power off device and then put in Download mode.
2. Plug device into PC until recognized.
3. Go to folder I unzipped BTU firmware .zip file into.
4. Double click Odin 3.07 to run program and my device's com location highlighted will show up in a box on the left side.
5. Click on PDA button on right side. New box pops up where I will select the firmware unzipped file. That box will disappear and I'll be back to first box.
6. Click Start.
7. After it runs I should get the word Pass (or like when I rooted I got the word reset until I rebooted - then it changed to pass).

And BTW, I'm not a dude. I'm a girl who is terrified of bricking my device in case you couldn't already tell by my million questions. For all your help and patience I am really REALLY thankful!!!

@fmachado2906 you are correct as long as the model # is the same there shouldn't be any problems and you should be in good shape, at the initial setup it should have asked you what country to use for updates.
@Festivale26 As far as moving apps to external SD card, from what I can tell and see, you CAN move apps to external SD card, however I also seen a few apps that I use that were "grayed" out.

No I am not able. When I go into Settings, Application Manager and click on an app (I tried a few) there is no option to move to SD card.

@fmachado2906 that is strange cause as I said I was able to move a few. I include a before and an after picture, as you can see it says move to SD and after it is moved it says move to device storage.

@Festivale26 make sure you open Odin as administrator.
With all the research you are doing you should be up and don't call yourself a newbie you already had success with the S3 :)

Saferoot works on Samsung Note 8 N5110

Unroot and push 4.2.2, all your issues will be solved. I tried custom ROMs and found stock 4.2.2 works just fine, without Google Music Player update or just disable it all together.

PS, use saferoot.zip next time... it does not require flashing, and will not break your device from using OTA or Kies for firmware updates.

Now you need to run triangle away to clear your flash counter before removing root.

@gooberdude

I just rerooted, but this time with saferoot! Had to restart it once, then later change MTP connection to Camera and later in the process back to MTP. But it did work!
