I got my phone back today. On the report it says ...

Complaint
#1[]C56-no service
phone antenna cutting out intermittently
Symptom code C56

Work performed
[202]-Full sw upgrade & phone reset
;sw re-flashed then rebuild to factory default

Repair code 202

I'll see if it happens again or not over the next few days and report back. To me it sounds like they did nothing to the physical components of the phone, just flashed/installed/configured the various software components.

Mick
Here we are, exactly one week later, and the phone failed in exactly the same way. So the "repair" process they applied did not work. I'll be returning it to the Rogers store today and will report back here with the results.

Okay, really sounds like a hardware-problem then..how often did you get the 'network-drops' this week?
I experienced it maybe 2 or 3 times this week, mostly when i was doing things on my phone, or charging it..so maybe there's some connection between the cpu getting stressed and the network dropouts ?
I'm planning on switching to CM10.2 .. don't know if it will make some difference (probably not if its a hardware problem), but wanted to check that ROM anyway..

other question:
Did you rooted you're phone ?

I have not rooted my phone.

I am getting the network drops when the battery runs down, currently to 20%. When i took it in for repair the first time it would happen at 35% to 45%. I have not taken it back in yet for various reasons but i expect to soon.

I am wondering if the network drops are to be expected when 20% is reached? How low should the battery level go and still result in good behavior from the phone?

Hey guys,

I'm planning on installing CM10.2 stable on my galaxy s4 mini, to check if the network-dropout problem still occurs..and because i'd like CM better anyway. But before doing this i got a question about the KNOX- flag on my phone..
I already rooted my phone and installed CWM... the KNOX flag is triggerd 0x1.
Can i just install CM from the menu in CWM like in most descriptions ? Or is KNOX going to give me troubles?

On another website I red this, and now i'm a little bit confused :

By downgrading from KNOX-enabled to KNOX-disabled firmware, your device will be locked to installation of newer firmwares.
Keep the above statement in mind all the time whenever you decide to flash a stock rom. Be careful not to flash a firmware that doesn't have KNOX
.

CM10 probably got no KNOX right ? Am i still able to install this ROM ? And is it possible to go back to stock rom just in case i need to get it back to the shop for maintenance?

I may have the solution to this problem of network drops now, finally. I took it back to the Rogers store where i bought it. This time there was a more knowledgeable guy there. He took one look at the screen and said "I know exactly what is the problem". What he noticed was that the LTE notification was not showing. This city is an LTE hot spot. The phone should connect with LTE virtually anywhere, anytime. He said it is not the phone at all, but that there is a "switch" that needs to be reset for my account; something to do with the SIM card. After a couple of phone calls he returned the phone and said that it is fixed.

Time will tell. I'll post again.

I have changed mobile provider and the probem come with it(havent got it before). i get a notification that the sim is not registered and i need to reboot to get signal again (and there is a reboot button there) its quite annoying.

it says: "Sim card removed
The mobile network wont be available untill you reboot your phone with a valid sim card."

only thing i can do is reboot.

False alarm. The fix made it worse. Now it not only drops network connections, but also drains 50% of the battery over the course of one day with very little use. Used to drain 20%.

On my G4mini is also the LTE notification not showing..but my provider doesn't provides 4G yet i believe..next to that i'm using an old simcard (probably 3 years old)..could it be possible that older simcards don't support 4G ?
When checking the phone-menu for network settings, i can only choose between GSM/WCDMA , or both..is that correct ?

Sorry i cannot answer this question. Just reporting that the so-called knowledgeable guy was incorrect. Still dropping the networks. I went back and he was incorrect again as he believed that you had to have Mobile Data enabled to make/receive calls. Oh well, he was doing his best. Got thru today so far with no dropouts. Will see what happens overnight and tomorrow.

Getting kind of tired of having an unreliable device. Hope this gets settled soon. I'll be back to him as soon as it drops out again.

I've been using my phone without problems for a few weeks now. The only thing i did or did not is to quit playing the online game i played. Then today i was about to find an address with google navigation and on my way i had the same message again with the only restart option. Pretty annoying i nearly threw this piece of sh*t out from the car. when you on new ground without navigation in the 21st century that's sucks :D
anyway, my phone never or rarely shows 4g i rather have H+ all the time. So what if the problem occurs when it try to switch over to 4g when you use some apps requires more data download? my problem is 99% sure app and data usage related. since i never have the problem randomly in my pocket or if i dont use internet. thing is i dont know how to find out if its a hardware or a sim/network provider issue

Right today i tested this to make sure. i used google maps navigation and the phone showed 4g(usually only get H+). 1-2 mins and the sim card got lost. only option is to restart. if i restart it instantly after reboot i still wont have network even after 2-3 or 4 attempts. so i just switched it off and turned back on 10mins later to get back the signal. i think it triggers something at provider i will see them in shop.

I had a new simcard. after a week it seems fine, not had the problem ever since.

Because i was still experiencing these network dropouts now and then, in the end i sended the phone back to the customer-support from my networkprovider. They checked it with their repair department.

I put a note along with the phone, describing the problem and the things i had tried to fix it.
What i tried was this:
- Factory Reset
- All software updated to newest versions
- Switched to 'Manual' in the 'SIM-menu app' from my provider. (Setting it to 'manually sim-selection'.)
- Provider switched me off/on on their network.
- Tried simcard in another phone, which works perfectly without signal dropouts.

None of the above worked for me to fix the problem.
When i got my phone back, i didn't receive any note with it what they changed or did with it.
Only thing i noticed was that it was changed back to factory settings, they UNROOTED the phone, and put back the stock recovery (i was using CWM). Also the text "set warranty bit kernel" , which i got when booting the phone, was gone. However it was still KNOX 0x1.

Unfortunately, the first day i used it, again i got the same problem. At a sudden moment the phone looses network, and isn't getting it back by itself. Only rebooting or switching on/off to airplane mode will get the network back again.

When again searching for the problem on the web, it seems like it's a problem with al lot of galaxies series. It seems that the phone loses the network when you're in a environment with bad reception, and once when network is lost, it won't connect again.
From what i read it is probably some software error...
Anybody anymore advice how to fix this ? Really drives me crazy, cause all the rest of the phone is working fine. :crying:

Check out my thread here, especially the last post [#8] which is a summary to date of my experience with the same or a quite similar problem; let us know what you think ...

Odd Problem with SGHi257M
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2734738
Hi Mdawdy, it's exactly the same problem as i am experiencing. Also did send back the phone for reperation, but didn't help.
Did you tried to install another ROM or something like that to fix it ?

It would be really nice if someone with the knowledge could look deeper into this problem, i do not know where to start.
Also..it seems that this problem is not only on GS4Mini, but also on other Galaxie series..

My daughter is interested in this phone. Should she keep her G2?
I answered this yesterday - looks like i forgot to press SubmitReply :( [unless you posted in my other thread?]

No one on any of the 5 forums that i have posted this on has any useful info. My impression is that my specific phone is the only one with this problem.

As mentioned in my above referenced post, i sent it in for repair three times, with the results that i posted there.

I have not rooted the phone or installed a custom ROM. I won't try that until the problem is fixed or the warranty runs out.

Where do you get the info that this problem exists on other phones? Can you please reference specific threads in specific forums?

When searching on Google for : Galaxy S4 Mini Network Issue, you get quiet a lot of results..
For example search this page fore 'network' : http://reviews.in.samsung.com/7463-en_in/GT-I9192ZWAINU/samsung-galaxy-s4-mini-reviews/reviews.htm
Also this thread is loooking like same problem, however phone is a S4:

I checked your first link. The posters there say that the problem was resolved by the updates to KK 4.4 and the update to the firmware. I have both of these updates. Neither solved the problem.

My phone has never "dropped" a call. Just occasionally stops making or receiving them.

My phone has lost the network connections [both calls and mobile data] while i am in a very strong LTE area.

Other users are posting that once the signal is lost/falls in the dead spot region, it doesn't come back a automatically. I have not had that experience. I often go to a dead region and when i come out the signal does not get lost, no need to re-start the phone.

Seems like others have a similar issue but not the same.
