hey,

i've done several searches and cannot find any threads on a fault i'm having.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSL1-Bsy5pI

Vid of completely stock nexus 7 not rooted exhibiting ambient light sensor/backlight issue. Screen dims beyond point where screen is visible when auto brightness is used or level is adjusted below 40%

UPDATE 11/10/13

ASUS are a joke. Tried to have it repaired as a manufacturing fault. They weren't having it as 6 months out of warranty. And there's rubbish 3rd repair centre TRIAGE SERVICES LTD claimed it needed a new main board as it was a light sensor fault at the cost of £207.06 (i could buy the new 2013 nexus 7 cheaper). I told them where to go with that and asked for my tablet back which cost me £35.

I bought a replacement board and fitted using the amazing guides on IFIXIT.COM

And guess what? same issue

2 possibilities here either replacement board has exact same fault (unlikely) or fault is else where (LCD assembly)

There is no way i've found that you can calibrate the screen using the tablet, not sure about other methods

I may try a new screen

UPDATE

Spoke to TRIAGE SERVICES LTD again shortly after changing the board and after a lot of longwindedness they say they have a way of reseting the screen although it not guaranteed to work and will cost £50 if it does or £35 to return if it doesn't. (why they did not try this when they had the tab is beyond me). I'm relecutant to send to them as every search i've tried to reset the defualts on the light sensor show nothing.

Now i know on the samsung you can get into a hardware test mode by dialing *#0*# wanted to know if there was a similar mode on the nexus 7. At least that would let me confirm and reset the values for the light sensor.

also when shining the LED flash on the sensor at close range when on auto brightness the screen does auto brighten.

Can anyone help me diagnose this further other than just changing the screen? i knew there are a few people with this fault

UPDATE I have tested a few hardware tester apps on the tab and they all show the light sensor to be operational and responding very well to light changes.

I'm wondering if there is some kind of CMOS in the display assembly or failing that the display driver are fooked.

When android is updated are the drivers also?
Does factory reset include drivers also?
Will flashing the rom via fastboot reset the drivers?

any help is greatly appreciated
