After returning to the stock firmware on my XT1058 (4.4.4) the WiFi stopped working. After further investigation, I discovered that the persist folder, which should contain files, was empty. After looking through this site, I found the file that should be there. When I tried to move it to persist, an error occured, presumably because I have no root access anymore.
So I need to move this file to persist to get WiFi back on
For this I need root.
Therefore I downloaded TWRP images, flashed them to my device. When I attempt to enter recovery, it simply boots up normally.
Any help on how to regain root or fix the persist issue would be extremely appreciated.

Edit: Managed to root. But when I copy the file to persist I still get error
Edit2: I managed to get the file into persist, WiFi still doesen't work
