Blackberry cables work fine too.

There is no danger in using 3rd party data cables - or other manufacturers' - since they all follow a global standard.

The only limitation is that some cables will charge only - but they are normally sold as charging cables. I had one of those retractable ones, which wind up to the size of a small coin - I don't think you can get all the different cables for data transfer into one of those designs.
