I activate adb on my nook hd+ and my computer keeps making the 'connect' and 'disconnect' noise over and over and over. I read somewhere someone else had this problem, and I wan't to root my nook but I think this might be a problem. (I read a guide to install a driver, but I can't find my nook tablet when Adb is activated..

Getting USB ADB to work on these devices is very difficult. Fortunately, you do not have to use ADB to root anymore. Go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature to see how to root with a bootable CWM card.

The problem with you're guide is they aren't exactly user Friendly, if you get what I mean. lol..

Like for one, what files would I need to install On my sd card, and what programs required on my pc.. I mean I need clockwork mod on sd card? theres 3 of them, and how exactly would the universal root work with that. I'v been trying to root my nook for 3 months now.... sad, ikr..

(I would love a description that goes step by step. example) Because 'Just add the files onto sd card and plug into Nook tablet-..' sounds Too good to be true..

Step 1: Place sd card into pc.
Step 2: etc.
Step 3: etc
Step 4: Done!

(Though you're methods are great for those who have experience with that stuff. too much writing to make sense of.)

So if you could just explain shortly what I have to do (I'm a beginer..) I would love you *_* master..

I'm not sure what is not user friendly. The very first sentence in the instructions says you need to make a CWM card. How much clearer do I have to make it? I have it step by step, but I don't have numbers. I tell you exactly what software you need and there are only two versions of each image file for your device. (Look closely at the names, HD vs HDplus).

And I have directions on how to operate the software. And I have directions on which zip files to use. I am not sure why you cannot follow the directions. I made it as simple as I can.

I am tired of hand holding for folks that cannot read and follow directions. You DO need to read carefully though. It is not a cookbook.

(I dream of the day, when one of these many dev's of roots for nook hd's actually put a guide on you tube explaining how and showing what they're doing on pc when installing.)

NookHD-HDplus-Universal-Root-rev1.zip - [Click for QR Code] (2.83 MB, 1245 views)

^ Now. As far as i can see....... None of them say what version to use. and I'm confused, you're saying what exactly. Do I install one of these? or all of them. I'm about to cry with frustration, I'm asking for help but only getting references towards posts with thousands of words!

Mabye if you made the directions in Bullet points, and not Paragraphs they would be easier to understand.

-Bullet points on required sofwere. ------ -- -------- -------- ---
-Step by step what to do. - ------- ----- --- -

Not:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

And I looked, the only reference towards cwm involving rooting my nook was this:

Rooting the HD/HD+

Rooting is now very easy using CWM in the referenced thread above. If you want to use the older manual method, click on the "show content" button below. But be warned these older methods no longer work on version 2.0.5 or newer.

The other one was just to backup stuff.
I don't think you appreciate how much work I put into making these directions simple. And for someone to call them not user friendly is offensive to me. It is obvious to me now that you did not even try to read these. You just saw how long it was and had no numbered steps like a cookbook and you gave up. Everything you need to know is in one section (clockworkmod) and is step by step.

Go try using ADB again if you don't want to follow my hard work. I guarantee you, you will not get it rooted. And if you can't read simple paragraphs you should not be rooting your device anyway. You will just end up resetting it.

Edit: Now I see your problem. You were looking at my HD/HD+ tips thread, not my HD/HD+ CWM thread. Go look at the thread I originally told you to look at!

I did try to read it, geez! you give me an explanation that i need cwm in the universal root part, but i Look and don't know what to do with it on my sd card. it's like a slap to the face. And I can't see what you wan't me to do with it, extract it into the sd card and add the universal root to the sd card too?

Which one? Is it a guessing game? with tragic endings?..

Edit: abandoned all hope, and suddenly the above made sense. they're drivers. Like the old saying, you find things when you're not looking for them..

And I know you've put alot of work into it (I can see that)

I'll stop buging you, and study you're guide over the weekend. If i make another topic It just means I'm stumped, Not that I haven't been trying.

Forget reading the universal root section. That is gravy. Read and follow the clockworkmod section. It is step by step and everything you need.

Edit: I just modified my OP in that thread to tell impatient readers not to start reading with the Universal Root section, but to read the CWM section. Let me know if you cannot read and understand that section. I want to make it so even the most impatient reader can get through that.

I got to the part where i Have to flash to sd card using win32 disk imager, but it just stopped responding.. waiting 10 minutes now..

Is this... Normal?

(Tried clicking on the sd card while win3d disk imager is not responding, it told me access denied? Does that mean its flashing the stuff..?

It is normal to take 10 minutes or more (my instructions said that) but win32 should be showing you progress on the progress bar. And win32 does lock the SD so you cannot access it with windows explorer while it is burning.

If you are not getting a progress bar, something is wrong. Try again.

I'm using the small file, So I can't see how that#s so. Also i got an error or something about my sd card in the slot from the program, when i click diagnosis it does nothing, and i just clicked continue to flash the file into the sd card. so I ended up having it running for 30 minutes and nothing happened. :/ sad.. I'm using a micro sd card which can be plugged into a normal size sd card. if that makes any difference.

Using an SD adapter is ok, but using your PCs built in sd card reader is not ok. If you got an error message from the program you should not have continued until you resolved the error. What was the error?

Leapinlar, your patience is truly amazing. You should add the above in bold red letters at the top of your instructions! It's so true. If someone doesn't want to take a few minutes to read and comprehend what they are doing to their device, then they don't need to mess with it.

Agreed, everything works perfectly if you read and follow the directions. Getting CM10.1 on my Nook HD was honestly one of the least painful experiences on any device i have messed with. And thats thanks to the work of others and their directions. I had the same problem as the OP, and i think it was Leaninlar that gave directions to fix the problem.... been great ever since!
