Hi forum members,

I just got back my Nook HD+. The first one was having screen issues, so I got an replacement from the store.
Because I live in Germany I gave it to friend and he exchanged it while visiting the US. The problem started because I was not able to pick up the "new" Nook HD+ for about 1 and a half months. Now I got my hand on it and is doesn't charge at all...

When I plug in the NOOK I shortly get the green light. Then it toggles between the green and amber light. If I try to switch on, only the warning for the low battery shows up. I left it the whole night on the wall charger but no change.

Does anybody have an idea on how to jump start the battery back to life???

My next visit to the US will be in May/June and I really do not want to wait until then.

Unfortunately no "stand-by"

Hi twiztid_,

I tried the power button (short press, long press and nearly all other possibilities), but I still get the same "display". Once the display shows the charging symbol, screen turns off, the charging lieght goes to greenfor about one or two seconds and then starts toggling between green and amber, but so fast you only recognize it as a flicker...

Yeah, sorry. I thought I had found a way to charge while my tablet was 'off', but I was wrong. It was charging while in a sort of stand-by mode when I had messed up my CyanogenMod install. Testing it out now, I can't charge without booting.

Have you tried leaving it plugged in and turned on at the low battery screen?
If it doesn't charge there, it may be possible that the battery or charger are bad. Could you test the charger on another nook, or use the wall charger with a different USB cable to charge another device?

Hi twiztid_,

I tried leaving it plugged in (I hoped overnight will give it a jump start...), but as I said, when I try to switch the Nook on I get only the charging symbol and then the Nook display switches off, the charging light goes to green and afterwards starts to toggle...

I tried another usb-charger (only 1A...) but still the same. If I try the wall charger with a diferent usb-device it is loading. The only thing I could not verify is that the wall charger is really pushing out the 2 Amp. I have no difference at the Nook with a smaller charger and also no difference on a different device with the nook charger....

Hi jpisini,

I will try that one, but at first sight the symptons (with the fast toggling charging light) are the same.....

BTW: The computer recognizes the Nook shortly and then the device is removed from the device manager before I even can click on it.....

Hi and good morning,

the USB-charging did not work. I still have the same problem as with the wall charger.

I could try the laptop with the sleep and charge USB port, but yesterday the lights on he Nook went off after connecting to this port. I will give it a try anyway until tomorrow.

Any other solutions out there?

Thanks for the answers so far.

You may have a cable problem. There have been a number of reported bad cables causing a problem like yours. Can you borrow one to try.
Hi kokercey,

No, there is no chance for me to borrow a cable, as I am in Germany and do not know somebody else with a nook.
Or is there anybody around Cologne / Bonn / Koblenz where I could try a different cable...

The wierd thing is that the computer will recognize the nook shortly and than "eject" the nook again. So I suppose the cable could not be that bad.

Does anybody know which Pins are used for the charging. I would try an on-the-fly cable to charge the Nook.

I can't quote the threads but i have read about this same problem any number of times here on XDA, no charge but connects to computer, and after much effort it has been just the cable. I bought an extra cable and charger from B/N on-line last month. for $13 US. With their known unreliability every nook owner should have a spare.

Hi kokercey,

I would buy a new cable if i knew it works.... But as I am in Gemany (as said before) it is not that easy to buy one. And to go through this hassle I would like to be sure that the cable is the problem....

I posted also on the german android help forum fors omebody to lent me another cable....

But maybe somebody has another idea.

Nook still dead

Hi,

today I had the chance to try another Nook-cable and charger, including a current meter...

However I have the same indication:
First a green light (with 0A current), then the flickering green/orange light. However the Nook is getting around 420mA while in this state. If I press the powerbutton the charging indicator shows on the screen and the Nook takes about 550mA, but the directly falls back to the 420mA and he flickering light.

I tried with a different charger and cable which have worked on another Nook, but unfortunately not on mine...:crying::crying::crying::crying:

Does anybody have some other ideas to get the Nook running?

I'm not too sure if it'll work, but please try this. Turn your Nook off completely. Now, insert your charger cable and your Nook should display a green light, and momentarily it should turn amber/orange. When it's green, as soon as it turns orange, immediately hold the Power button down until your Nook turns on. It should then stay in an amber state and hopefully charge your Nook.

Please let me know if this works; it did for me when I had a faulty Nook. My Nook actually stopped working shortly after, and I had to get a replacement. :(

All the best.

Hi hiddenG,

thanks for the try, but unfortunately it did not work. The second the screen comes to life with the charging indicator, the charging light goes back to green and shortly after the screen goes off and the flickering light is back.

I'm starting to get used to the fact, that I have to wait till my next trip to the US and exchange the Nook.
