Over a decade ago, I used to have a Creative Zen MP3 player. Their batteries were notorious for going into deep discharge if the player lay dormant for a long time so that you could not charge them anymore. This happened to me on a few occasions. The first time it happened, I went searching for solutions and one of the suggestions was to put the battery in the freezer for awhile. I guess I left it in there for at least an hour, if not longer. Lo and behold, I was able to charge the battery after it came out of deep freeze! When fully charged, that battery had plenty of life left in it too.

If I recall correctly, the second time the Zen's battery went into deep discharge, I tried the freezer trick again and it did not work the second time. But I was able to use another trick I read about involving a mobile phone charger to jump start it. However that second trick involved having direct access to the battery's electrical connectors, so it is not applicable to the Nook tablets. But you might want to try the freezer trick if you've exhausted everything else. If you do, be sure you wrap up your nook first in some good zip lock plastic bags -- maybe double or triple wrapped -- to prevent any moisture from getting inside.

Try this at your own risk! I take no responsibility should your Nook suffer irreversible frostbite!

Same problem here in Austria. The green then yellow light stays on, but the Nook is not charging/powering on. When it first happened the screen showed the broken battery symbol. Now the screen doesn't turn on at all anymore.

Edit: I just plugged it into another 1 amp wall charger and at least the screen showed the broken battery symbol again. So maybe the .5 amps of the USB port aren't enough to charge the Nook in this state.

Edit 2: I just charged it for an hour or so with the 1 amp charger. It booted up nicely again! So what we learn from this incident: The B&N wall charger is too weak to charge th eNook when the batteries are deeply discharged. Use a more powerful wall adapter.

The Nook charger is 2amp. When you get your Nook device fully discharged you'll only need luck to turn it on again. It happened twice with me and I could turn it on again without needing to change the charger.

You can jump start the nook from a discharged state. When you plug in the cable the charge light turns green, after 10 or so seconds it switches to orange. Unplug the power when it turns orange. This works ever time for me. You can plug the power back in a second or so.

Hi everybody. If Nook is not charging. Green light all the time with Nook charger on. Solution that worked for me: Unplug Nook cable. Press power button and n button Nook for 10s. Nook swiches off from stand by mode. Plug back on charger. Then press power button. Light goes from green to amber then back to green. but quickly, Unplug cable and put it back. Amber light back and steady! Charging at last!
