I wanted to make a dock so I didn't have to spend $60 on one. I took apart a usb cable and touched the red black wires to the two out side pins, no matter what I do they won't charge. Any suggestions?

The pogo pin closest to the power button is the ground (black) and the pin closest to the bottom is for 5V (red).

You have to have a good connection for like 10 seconds before the phone will enter charge mode.

Tried the same thing with my Nexus One and couldn't get it to charge with bare wires, but when I got the dock, it worked like a champ.

Good luck.

EDIT: Are you using a USB to a USB port or a AC electric charger? Not sure if there is a difference, as my dock charges with both...

I had a similar problem when I was testing you probably just aren't making good contact. It takes 10 seconds for the phone to acknowledge it is connected.

Also the pin nearest the power button is ground and the one closest to the bottom is positive.
