The tech whizzes here tell me should I upgrade to the new 10.1... I just want better battery life and the ability to move apps to SD... currently I have the S4 and now its had an update I can now move apps which is a godsend!!! I like the specs of the Note 2014 but is it actually an upgrade or just an incremental upgrade like apple often do (btw always Android for me!)

If you root the current model of the GNote 10.1 you can move apps and games to sd card. I think it would be wise to hold off on purchasing a 2014 GNote 10.1 as no one knows for sure what is possible. I would think there will be some deals on curent 32gb models that may spark your interest, a new 32gb on ebay $435 right now.

Honestly I think its a upgrade because I had the Note 10.1 2012

Its an upgrade by:
-Thinner bezel
-Thinner in general
-Lighter
-Screen resolution is a lot better (major major + for me)
-Probably a lot faster and better battery
-More up to date

So I recently purchased the GN 2012 edition at best buy for $355.00. My local Walmart had it marked down on new units at this price. I took a photo of the price tag and they matched it. I used it for about 4 hours and was not impressed at all. Screen resolution we awful. Spen features were amazing just like on my GN 2 phablet, yet the tablet felt like a single core processor not a quad core processor. The overall lack of smoothness was so disappointing. For me, I needed a much higher resolution screen, and system performance had to go way up. At least feel close to as smooth as my GN2 phone.

So then I purchased the new, GN 10.1 2014. The second it booted up and I was welcomed to the device I smiled just a bit due to the overall beauty of the gorgeous screen resolution and quality of the picture before me. The device from the start was so much faster than the 2012 GN 10.1. I have noticed small amounts of lag here and there, more like very short moments of stutter in screen scrolling depending I think on how many active widgets and pages your using. I have had two Samsung firmware updates in the last few days and I have had less lag overall. I can promise you, the overall features and capabilities of this device so far out way the minor stutter here and there that you will most likely never think about it. It's an extremely fast device. I multi task the heck out of it with sometimes 5 different windows open and tons of programs running in the background and it's performing very fast still.

I consider myself very knowledgeable of tablets and phones in general as I spend way to much time playing with them and I highly recommend this device. Is it worth upgrading from the previous model? In my humble opinion, absolutely YES! Night and day difference in day to day use and that gorgeous screen? Wow, definitely is up there with the Ipad retina. It is a pricy device, and I had a hard time throwing down the $600ish for it, but just a few days later I can say those thoughts are gone and I am excited to use it everyday.

it seems battery life may be worse and charge time very bad on the new gn.
Battery is lasting me 11 hours normal to heavy use. 14 to 17 light to normal use. Battery does not draw fast for me at all. Even after it being on one day for 9 hours on but not used I still had 97% battery. No issues here and I defuse the thing all the time. I do use use DU battery app as well.

yep it's definitely better than what some of those reviews shown. i was originally concerned with the 7hr charge time one site reported. mine does it in just over 4hrs.

So Cal
I had the 2012 version for a couple weeks. So glad I returned it for the new 2014 model. Screen resolution alone made it worth it. Throw in faster processor and smaller overall design and I have no buyer's remorse.

Mine charged up from 5% to full in under 5 hours using the stock charge cable.

the 2012 is still a very capable device. it's not saying that i'd prefer it over the 2014, but if i had the 2012 i'd most likely not be upgrading just yet.

I bought the 2014 model, and it's caused me a lot of frustration. Samsung's new S Note software is super buggy and not capable of doing a lot of things the 2012 model could do.

I would say don't buy any tablet and wait for the nice Windows Tablets (not RT) to get better. But that's just me..
