Personally with vbmeta it never works (bootloop). I install Mi Globe and then Syberia.

For me it was only working with flashing vbmeta coming from official miui 12 eu version
So I was successfully flashing by these steps:
Flash Miui12
Flash vbmeta
boot into TWRP
factory reset and format data
flash rom
flash gapps
boot into system
restart and flash magisk
Only the vowifi symbol doesn't show up but vowifi is working properly (o2 germany),
Everything is working very well after one day of use
Overall seems to be a good Rom!
audio input bug
the audio input not working while using usb dongle(charge+audio), usually it says connected by usb audio in my other phone on aosp.
The output is working tho.

Personally, it works very well, battery ok, photo ok, just a few modifications to do in: "battery optimization" for some applications. Stabilité ok.
flash vbmeta "fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img --disable-verity --disable-verification"
flash twrp
boot to twrp , format data , reboot to twrp
copy files to device , wipe dalvik/cache/system/vendor/data
flash firmware/rom/gapps
format data , reboot to twrp , boot to system
then twrp/magisk (optional)

No, I've made yesterday a clean flash and all is running as expected.
Except smart charging:
Hi to all professionals. I'm on newest syberia with cepheus Mi9. I've got problems with intelligent charging. I've switched it on and adjusted to 90% but it charged to 100%. How I can get it working.
Before newest syberia it was working.

I will try again next week-end. Miui 12 is good but battery life is sh** using it for my daily use.
Thank you for the tip Mario. I experimented Syberia on a mi5 some years ago and liked it much more than Xiaomi.eu.

It seems like every developer is working on a custom ROM for android 10. It's good but I recognized that in 10 actually are more bugs to solve as in 9.
So my suggestion is first, one last update syberia 9 with solved known issues and then we've got a nearly perfect pie and then is a lot of time to solve the problems in android 10
Hopefully the wish will be recognized

I got the system up and running. I can use Google Pay in conjunction with PayPal and the NFC chip for shopping. Since this probably causes many problems, I thought I'd show you how I could make it all work.
1. Unlock the bootloader
2. Install TWRP. Follow the insturuction.
3. Use the TWRP to flash the Vendor 9.8.1 and the Syberia Rom. Also flashes with TWRP Magisk and Open GApps. Follow these instructions. I used the Micro Open GApps version.
4. Set up the device and then install the Magisk Manager.
5. Use the Magisk Manager and check if everything is up to date and what the SafetyNet status is like. If "ctsProfile: false" install in Magisk the "MagiskHide Props Config" module and configure it for the Xiaomi Mi 9.
6. Now follow this instruction
7. Install Google Pay and PayPal. Hide all "critical" apps in Magisk, like PayPal and Google Pay.
8. Connect PayPal with Google Pay
I very much hope that I have not forgotten anything but actually that should be everything.
