Well today I flashed back to stock 2.2 and updated Through Kies trying to get my GPS working, to my surprise I ended up with UXKH2 Gingerbread 2.3.3. I Haven't heard that Rogers/Samsung pushed the update for Captivate yet. I Tried rooting with Superoneclick but was unable to. So i tried Designgears auto root for UCKF1 but that didn't work either and soft bricked me, so now I'm back on stock Froyo. Any ideas how to root Gingerbread 2.3.3? I'm a CM7 user but would like to stay on the official Gingerbread bootloaders for easy testing :).

Fugumod, its a kernel swap method, but you will need to somehow back up the kernel you have now, do that street rooting you can flash back to it.
I'm setup to dump and create my own odin tars to dump my kernel, but I need root to do it. Maybe I'm missing something here. I've only been modding android for a few weeks now.

What is the new modem included with it? Possible you could rip it and upload?
The modem is i896UXKH2 (KH2), but first we need root to rip anything.

SuperOneClick works for anyone?
I've tried numerous times but can't get passed step #7.

dont forget the original stork roms in my signature!!!! 2.1 and 2.2 Rogers Captivate!

Well if we get root and rip 2.3.3 you'll have another to add to the collection.

Anyone know how to dump a stock kernel? or do we need to jtag?

Do you have an ETA on a flashable stock image? I'd love to avoid KIES all together.
Stock image can be found in the same thread as the root method.

This is complete B.S!! It deleted my "App Backup" folder in my external sd-card, now I have to re-download all my apps from the Internet !! But it rooted my phone.:D
Not sure how that happened...

ROOT ACHIEVED!!!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17865158#post17865158

it is a kernel swap method.
fugu kernel (odin package) flash, let bootloop reboot into download mode
and the new rogers kernel in an odin package. reboot

DONE!

not just winning, but won!

Your stock images saved my ass a bunch of times so im glad I could return the favour :p
