Sorry to be a noob. (Well a Cappy Flashing Noob at least).

1) Could someone point me to a correct version of Odin to use.

2) Is there a particular spot in Odin I pick to select the kernels.

I am not really intrested in flashing a custom ROM. I just would like to get root.

Thanks in Advance

CWM

Hi. Can someone show me if there is any post that teach people how to inject CWM into the kernel ? Try to google CWM but doesn't find anything useful. Also where can I find CWM ? I assume we need at least the orange version of CWM for GB ? Just want to know how hard to do it myself.

Even though I can root the kernel (Thanks a lot), without CWM it is very difficult to flash zip file to make any mod.

YOU dont inject it into the kernel, it will COME in a NEW kernel that you flash or as a update.zip (temp flash)

might want to read my new user guide in my sig, find the part about "stickies" go from there.

@studa i know youre reading this and thinking Damn i missed this guy!

Is it possible to use Talon 0.4.3 for i9000 on this ROM. Just wondering at the possibilities to have a voodoo kernel with this.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no, but as long as you have the kernel you're using now in a .tar zip you can try talon, the worst that can happen is a bootloop in which case you can boot onto download mode and flash back to a working kernel...

"might want to read my new user guide in my sig, find the part about "stickies" go from there."

Are you referring to the XDA new user guide ? It doesn't seem obvious to me where the "stickies" are. Do you mind post a few URLs that I can follow easily.

Anyway I got as far as extracting the initramfs.cpio from the KH2 kernel. Going to make a few modification and repack it.

How to root

So can I root my i896 even though I have 2.3.3 installed? I havent noticed any difference in battery life (still poor). Memory management is much worse than before and all apps once again "wake-up" on their own.

During the update process I lost a few aftermarket apps. The backup I did before hand didnt back them up for some reason either. Now I know why some Android users are switching to iOS.

If you are talking about the official Rogers Gingerbread 2.3.3, then no voodoo for you... unless you buy the Voodoo Control Plus app in the Market. And CWM Recovery you can get through boog's KH3 kernel -- see boog's kernel thread. I believe I have read where someone said that it worked for them on Rogers 2.3.3.

.
So, if I purchase that app, I will have an option to download voodoo kernel for stock rogers 2.3.3 rom

The leaked ATT is a rootable 2.3.3, and I've had good results with that one. I was thinking about going to Rogers 2.3.3, but the non root if a big red flag. Thanks for the heads up.
