can someone post some instructions or make a YouTube video for us rooks?
You mean how to root the 2.3.3?can someone post some instructions or make a YouTube video for us rooks?
Any idea why Odin might be giving me a "Check image file !!" error with those tar kernels posted? My phone is in downloading mode, Odin recognizes it (except SGH-I896 doesn't come up in the title, it still says (Android).) Run as admin, using Vista 32-bit, tried Odin 4.03 and 4.28...ROOT ACHIEVED!!!

it is a kernel swap method.
fugu kernel (odin package) flash, let bootloop reboot into download mode
and the new rogers kernel in an odin package. reboot
DONE!
not just winning, but won!
Use Odin3 v1.81, here's the link: http://www.mediafire.com/?glj5mue73mu44q7. Put the "zImage-root1.tar" in PDA Slot, flash it and let it bootloop then put the phone back in download mode, and put the "zImage.tar" in PDA Slot then flash it.Any idea why Odin might be giving me a "Check image file !!" error with those tar kernels posted? Edit: I have it set to one package and selected under the one package option. Using 4.28 I am now getting "Check OPS file", but I don't see any Odin Partition files...
Then if I wanted to undo the root, and how would I do that?Use the fugumod method as in previous posts worked like a charm the first time
Well then I would say flash back to stock. Then if I wanted to undo the root, and how would I do that?

What generic driver patch are you referring to? Do you have a link? Please and thank you.I just tried this and it worked NP!
Some issues i ran into were my sammy USB drivers. I had to just reinstall them via a generic driver patch. Once adb picked it up, i just ran the batch file, waited, and done!
Wow, there are quite a few steps involved.I finally rooted my rogers captivate on gingerbread!
First properly install ADB drivers by following these instructions:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
Then use $omator's batch file (in command prompt with admin priveldges) found here:

Just installing the ADB drivers may work with SuperOneClick, but I didnt try.
Use Fugu Root method! You just need to swap Kernel and you're done. As for the speed dial issues, I don't have any of that.Wow, there are quite a few steps involved.
Is there an idiots guide to rooting an i896 on Gingerbread?
I dunno, the multiple steps involved that require command entries and the speed dial issue and who knows what other issues surface with rooting make me not want to root and take the [unnecessary] risk.![]()
My speed dial works fine, although why would you use it? Contacts widget, or just putting the contact on a screen is so much faster than using speed dial, or is there a secret? What generic driver patch are you referring to? Do you have a link? Please and thank you.
